I'll interpret a bit for old flog:

VA is veterans administration (y'all probably know that one)
QTC, I don't know the acronym, but is an outside doctor contracted by VA to check a veteran
VA IG - eh, what is IG flog?
FOI - eh?
QTC Home Page a company OWNED by Lockheed Martin.
QTC is the largest private provider of government-outsourced occupational health and disability examination services in the nation. Our more than 30-year history has been marked by a focus on delivering technology-driven examination solutions for our customers.

The Defense industry takes over.

In looking at finances I found I can move funds from our 401k as it is fully vested and I am over 59.5 years. By this I mean move the funds directly to me and pay taxes only with penalty, or into a rollover IRA.

So I am thinking of moving the funds as soon as I see the Fed is definitely stopping their $85B a month to prop the economy. I think not think the economy can sustain as many are doubtful with what is going on in the USA. I plan to move to Schwab IRA so I have flexability to move between CDs (laddering) when rates start to climb.

Another thing (or two) I found were a Roth and Traditional IRA with USAA that I put funds into 20 years ago for my wife and forgot. She never opens her email account notices and I never get them to open as they go to her. So we are leaving those, but they are found money since I forgot about them.

Lastly, we are meeting with an Elder Lawyer to put our assets into a Trust and ensure it is generation skipping so I kids and then grand-kids get our assets. We like our in-laws but do not want our grand-kids to loose if there is breakup.
We currently have a will which is OK for now as for my wife there would be no probate, but would be probate if we both go. I have a empty Living Trust with Pour-over will that I did on my own, but I do not not time to fill it thus why we are going to the Elder lawyer.
We had a bad experience with my Father and Mother's death because there was no will or trust. Thus we had everything straight for my Mother and Father in law so it was smooth and no probate when they passed.
Just some thoughts.
Jim

I forgot to note the move of 401k funds to Schwab would be direct from my 401k to Schwab without me touching the funds thus no tax.

My wife's job is so intense that I deal with our money. She has to file a form after every election that lists all her assets. A couple of months ago she contacted all of our banks, etc... to send her copies of everything. When she had it all listed on paper she was amazed at the difference from four years ago. It really made her want to bale early. But she only has three years five months left. She will be 63 1/2 then, so that means full SS plus her state pension. Some days she isn't sure if it is worth the wait.

I agree Larry. I work in a high tech company and I swear it is difficult to carry a conversation or receive a good document plus even an email with a full sentence. This 140 words, or less, world and looking at a phone as you walk, drive and date is crazy.

On weekends I walk the woods, bush hog, or whatever including just setting and watching the beauty of the land and woods. Very clearly stated and peaceful even when one has a Polaris stuck in the swamp (as I do) which has my attention this weekend! Best to you, Jim

True John. I just did not expect the needs of audit children and grand-kids that I would need to assist with. Love them a great deal, so we help as we can and just keep hanging around until they are on their feet. They work hard and are moving forward.

I'm assuming you meant "adult" children.

I AGREE!!

When my parents and all previous generations grew up when one became an adult (20 plus) you were expected to move out and be on your own in the world.

We've got:
A 37 yr old borrowing a decent sum of money and thinking of going back to school to become a Dentist (5 more yrs of school).
A 32 yr old with a new baby (good job etc.) that moved into a house I had been renting because their 1 bedroom condo was too small, and they haven't sold it yet. There goes the rental income.
A 29 yr old going to grad school who is always short on money and tapping SWMBO for a loan.
A 26 yr old STILL living at home, but w/ a full time job at least.

When we retired 2 yrs ago only the 29 yr old was "kind of" planned on needing $$.

Of course I blame 90% of our situation on SWMBO, because she's so kind and generous, but if our adult children didn't require so much revolving financial support I'm sure I'd have more land or tractors.

We are not retirees, we are a family loan service.

We are both US Army retired 20 years each and the funny thing is when I was active I hated medics that love to give shots all the time and what did I go do? Married one but if you want to see a real war she is a Auburn Tiger fan and I am a Alabama fan so trust me during the Iron Bowl we hide all the weapons in the house She works part time as a GS and I do all the honey do's now.
