Are 2210's as prone to destroying the PTO system as 2305's appear to be?

Hiya,

Well, my lawnmower search is teaching me a lot about little tractors in a not so good light.

Based on the number of threads, I guess it's not uncommon the for PTO system to destroy itself on 2305's.

So, my question is this, are the 2210's more reliable than the 2305's?

Keep in mind that my use for this will be as a lawn mower with either a mid or rear finish mower around the house with the biggest hazard being a dog bone, tennis ball or kids flip flop.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I've read all the those writings also and I wouldn't worry too much about it. It might be just the luck of the draw, even new cars and trucks have problems occasionally. I bought a new 2305 in February 2006 and a reverse tine tiller. It tilled up a few hundred gardens and over a dozen yards in a new housing area and there was plenty of times that a rock or some type of debris stopped the engine before I could get to the PTO switch. I ran it for 7 years and never had a problem.

"I don't think so, Tim".

It's repeated shock loads that destroy the trans case at the rear PTO. Most of the horror stories I've read are from rough rotary cutter use. Totally the operator, not the tractor. Now that the one series is out, the 2210, 2305, and all other SCUTs are really starting to drop in resale value. When I started shopping two years ago, the 2210, and 2305 were running around 12-15 with FEL and MMM. My R was 15.7 @ 0%. Although at the time, I did see a nice 2210, turfs, 54" QH blade, 62 mower, 1200 hrs sell in Indiana for 5500.

I guess I got somewhat lucky last week.....for $8,500 I got a 2009 2305 w 270 hrs, 62c belly mower, FEL, Frontier 4' box scraper, Frontier 5' blade, Deere 14 bushel PowerFlow bagging system, Deere ballast box, after market quick hitch, 3 pt tow attachment, and a 2011 6' x 12' nice trailer.

That's a nice deal. I doubt you'd sell it for $8600, huh?

Actually....in May I bought an '04 2210 with 340 hrs. Included the quick hitch, ballast box, 62 deck, FEL, PowerFlow 14 bushel, and DR Power pto driven chipper for $7,000, plus $300 for a guy to go pick it up for me about 150 miles away. I sold the chipper for $1,300, so down to $6k invested at that time. I've been searching for a box scraper, found one on a nationwide CL search that was part of a 2305 package that included the box scraper and also a 5' blade and tow attachment, coincidentally (again) about 150 miles away. $9k, and for $1k more he threw in his trailer. I drove to Richmond last weekend and met him. So, for a week, I owned both tractors, and my wife thought I was losing my mind. In a couple of days time I sold the 2210 with deck and FEL for $7,500. Net = $8,500 spent, and I couldn't be happier.

ps.....part of my deal with the 2210 sale was that I got to remove the PowerFlow parts from the 2210 deck, in particular the right pulley (double pulley needed for the PowerFlow). I had a very difficult time getting the deck off the 2305 this evening, not sure what I did wrong. I did finally get it off so I could remove the single pulley I am giving him.

That's a nice deal. I doubt you'd sell it for $8600, huh?

Does the 4010 have the same problems?
