I've been snooping around on here for quite a while reading different reviews and trying to get everyone's opinions on a new tractor. I'm still torn between a 3520 or a 4120. I was on the phone with a dealer on Friday pricing out a 4120 with a 400x loader and an MX6 brush hog and a zero turn mower for my dad. After he gives me prices for the new tractor he also tells me he has a used 2010 4320 with 290 hours and a 400x loader for $25,000 and a 3520 (can't remember the year) with 100 hours with a 300cx loader for 19,000. I have about 75 acres I brush hog at the farm that's why I was leaning toward the 4000 series but the 3000 would be nice for around the house doing yard work and snow removal. So, do you guys think I would be a total idiot if I don't spend the extra 6,000 bucks for the 4320. I'm sure he would work on that price a little bit as well. I like the price of the 3520 but I just don't want to always be wondering how much better the 4000 series would have been, especially as for as stability goes.

The 4320 hands down in my opinion. That tractor isn't even broke in yet and you can never have to much horse power. ;)

For 75 acres...4320.

Thanks for the input. I was really leaning toward the 4120 after I've read a few guys on here say don't waste the money on the 4320 for 5 more horse and spend it on an implement. What do you guys think about the price. Does $25,000 seem high for a tractor that is 3 years old with 290 hours and a 400x loader. Not sure if the tires are R1's or R4's or any other accessories. I plan on calling the sales guy first thing in the morning to get some more info on it and hopefully there will be another green to in the driveway by the weekend.

I bought a low hour 2008 JD 5303 with 522 loader for less a year or so ago.

That size tractor brings a high purchase price. With you considering the 3000 series and considering the 4000 series may be too big you may not even consider the 5000 series. In my opinion, the 5000 series are the most bang for the buck deal going in the JD lineup. For the 75 acres you need to consider what the largest implement sizes and PTO loads you expect and let that help size the tractor. As many have said you will seldom have too much tractor.

While the 5000 series would be nice I think something smaller like a 4000 would serve me a little better right now. I have a couple tight trails along the fence row around the property that the 4000 would squeeze through a lot easier. And as far as the 3520 goes I liked the price of it but I have been wanting a 4x20 tractor now for quite some time and I think I would just be disappointed with it for what I want to use it for and would end up selling it to get what I really wanted in the first place.

I would not buy the MX6 mower after the gearbox problems that have been reported. I too would take a look at the 5000 series for 75 acres.
Just make your trails bigger :D
I was looking for a 5x25 series and ended up with the 6415 for $1,000s less than the 5x25s I was seeing for sale. I am sure a big reason for this is it is an open station and most want cabs for this size tractor.

Take a quick look on Tractorhouse.com to check pricing / hours / equipment and remember pricing sometimes has a regional factor involved. Of the 3x20 / 4x20 series - unless your "yardwork" consists of mowing the front lawn, I think in the long run you would be happier with the 4320, as long as it has the features / options you want / need.

The 3x20, in my view is a lot like a Swiss Army Knife - does a lot of things reasonably well, some very well, but for 75 acres go with the larger machine.

No question 4000 series or larger, not smaller. It's a great machine and a reasonable asking price. If it has the tires you need and check for extra hydraulics as they are expensive to add later.
