How much do you pay to have your ride detailed?

Every time I pay someone to do something it ends up screwed up and guess who has to fix it. I do pretty much everything myself so it can be done to my satisfaction. You do need to know your limits and when to call a professional though.

That happens sometimes too-sadly.

Yep, being able to park inside, out of the weather, saves wear and tear on the vehicles and the drivers, too. And one of the discounts shown on my auto insurance is for housing them inside a garage.

The sun has taken a toll on my wife's 05 Prius. It sits for 45 or 50 hours a week in the Florida sunshine while she's at work. And she parks it by the house. I put my truck under the pole barn. But even then it gets sun early in the morning. I'm at work in the afternoons, and have a pretty shady spot there. It being a 98, it is the newest truck I have ever owned. {I bought it 5 or 6 years back} It still looks pretty good. I haven't painted it camo yet, but you never know.

for the love of god, please dont let them run a buffer on your paint unless it REALLY needs it. I have worked for a professional detailer and you have to understand that everytime that you buff, you remove paint or clear coat. buffing is last resort only to bring back a shine. and after you buff it down so far, you can then only have it repainted. it just scares the **** out of me knowing there are kids opening up a detailing service and trying to high speed buff a car just ruining the paint. aghhhhhhhhhhh.... swirl marks, burn marks... aghhhhhhhhhh

I am telling you!!!! buffing is last resort only... most cars can only take 1 or 2 buffings before you have to repaint.
I tell you this from experience. I have had to try to fix other people mistakes that the insurance company sent me. I could tell you some horror storys of what happens when you give a high speed buffer to a kid that does not know what he is doing. there should be a application and license process to buy and or use a buffer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corners -- Edges OOOps Why did the edge change color??? DUHH

i agree hand polishing is a safer way for most...

I replied to having your car/truck detailed and paying some one else to do it ,i think everything you own should be maintained ,but if your too LAZY to do it yourself having someone else do it is vanity .

It's a time factor thing. If I can pay someone else to do a professional job, especially to free my time and labor efforts, I'll gladly do it.

To each his own and maybe I'm just a little too old school for some ,But I very rarely let anyone touch my toys I just feel I would do a better job .

I never pay a dime till its done. If they need money up front that means they have poor credit or are in poor standings with local supply houses.

I check the BBB and the supply houses. The supply houses can tell you more about a contactor than anything.

Well I am glad you have the time to do that. I don't. I hope you see that it it is not a vanity thing as you noted earlier.

I have to admit My opinions are just that Mine ! I was probably raised in a different atmosphere . I have a hard time with they way things are nowadays ( I recently was at a local body shop supply house and there was a young man complaining how he had to look for 2 hours online to find a front fender for a customers 34 ford project car , I had to remind him that a few short years ago we may have searched for weeks scouring every junkyard in the state and dozens of phone calls to find a rebuildable part and not a brand new shiny scuff and paint replacement ) He looked at me like I was crazy ! I just see a $100.-150 to have a car detailed as a total waste of money .but in today's throw away culture I guess it's acceptable as long as you don't have to get your hands dirty .

The only detail I've had done on a vehicle was at time of purchase.

I'm too cheap to have one done. Anything I can do myself I won't pay someone else to do.
