cat 5 / 6 coupler? ( plug 2 cables together to get extra length? )

I am using the simple inline couplers in a IP camera run, including PoE, no problem. The total run was only 100' or so, and I just needed to extend about 15'. Works fine.

Lowes also had some that connect through a wall plate, with a double female in the plate, so you can plug one male in behind the wall, and another into the front. Not a purist's first choice but better than pulling another 100'. If you were out near the spec max of 100 m for Ethernet it might be more of a compromise, but in shorter runs it works. And it's certainly cheaper to try it first- you can always use a 15' network cable somewhere else if it didn't work out.

We finally got them to let us run three CAT5s on each run. Two for data and one for phone. That's worked OK over the last few years, but it would have been more cost-effective to do it all at once. Hindsight is 20-20 of course, but we did have a glimpse into the future back then and they should have seen it coming.

Around here it's hard to even get a request on the budget agenda. ie. we know we NEED something.. and yet they will set onthe idea till near too late to decide if they will decide on doing something at all.

Kinda like having a meeting to decide if you will start bailing out the ship, while you wait to have the meeting do decide if you will fix the hole in the ship.

i see those double female connectors that are couplers.. but also will click into a wall plate. now that would be a nice idea. push the 2' stub back into the wall, install a connector plate and then install a? 15' or whater patch line.

assuming we go for this next project.. I believe that is what i will do.

speak of the devil. building manager just came down and asked me to resend all the quotes and my recomendations to him again and that he had preliminary approval for purchas. he would re-submit the info again for final approval ( tomorrow? ) and then let me know via email when to start ordering.
