I am using the simple inline couplers in a IP camera run, including PoE, no problem. The total run was only 100' or so, and I just needed to extend about 15'. Works fine.
Lowes also had some that connect through a wall plate, with a double female in the plate, so you can plug one male in behind the wall, and another into the front. Not a purist's first choice but better than pulling another 100'. If you were out near the spec max of 100 m for Ethernet it might be more of a compromise, but in shorter runs it works. And it's certainly cheaper to try it first- you can always use a 15' network cable somewhere else if it didn't work out.
