I learned my lesson used shredders. Only new from now on.

Squeak noise on rear when moving; and it's extremely hard to shift through H, N, and R.

any leaks in the gear box? have you checked since you filled it and ran it?
do you have any way to try another drive shaft?
the resistance turning by hand is a concern, there may be a bad bearing
in the gearcase and under load you don't hear it yet.

No leaks. Same level now as it was when I filled it up.

I have a drive shaft from a finish mower I could use.

I called JD; they have a lead time of about 1.5 weeks for service. Have to use this for mowing this week, weekend, and next. So will bring by there once I'm finished.

The gear case has clearly been taken apart before; the top cover has messy gasket maker around the seal.
