Come on Moss.....Ad blockers are there for a reason and many of us post from work computers which must have ad blocker software on them for many reasons...Advertisers and Sellers of ads are aware of ad blockers, nothing new and it comes with the territory. ;)

I perfectly understand the desire to block ads. I just don't agree with people taking advantage of a graciuos host and then boasting about it.

I see the CCRE ad now. Good looking ad. After walking out to the shed and looking up a drawbar I'm going to loan to my coworker, I'm soaking wet with sweat. A summer place in East Tennessee is sounding pretty good about now.

And there is a Seton ad to the side. I wonder if they know they are being talked about over on http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/289872-but-shipping-free.html. Now Seton is on the banner ad. I clicked advanced, and it changed.

I don't see any banner ad's on TBN at all, I am not running any ad blockers to my knowledge. I see ad's on other sites I go to. I am running Firefox 18.0.1.

Banner ads are the devil... I won't use a site that forces advertisements.

I don't mind "well behaved" ads. I hate ads that make the screen content jump up and down, or open on top of the content and stay there until clicked on the X.

But, ads are an overhead on the throughput of the 'net, and the speed of your PC or whatever you use. In that sense, they are subsidized by everyone. They couldn't run if the bandwidth and display processing were not given over to them.

It's a "pushy" attitude. You buy a machine and someone wants to use part of it. It's like you stopped at a traffic light and a stranger invites themselves into your car--regardless of how many seats are available.

It may be the least evil method of supporting a site, but it's not free by any means. I hope the ads here continue to be well behaved.

My main problem with banner ads, even those on TBN, is they're not actually part of the site you're visiting. The site/page you are visiting is made with a hole in it, and that hole is contracted out to a third party advertising host (in TBN's case, a company called doubleclick). That third party advertising host does nothing more than take advertisements created by whomever is willing to pay, and cycles their ad in the holes they're contracted to fill in various sites... This is a wide spread practice and leaves your security while visiting a page to be nothing more than trusting the 3rd party advertising contractors and whomever built the ads you are seeing (most times antivirus is useless in such situations as well, estimated 29-34% detection rate according to the latest research). It's been less than a year since a couple hundred thousand computers became infected within a couple hours by simply visiting NBC.com, all they did was load the page and a bad ad cycled through and infected their PCs... I keep all advertisers and ads blocked and any site that makes ads a requirement, I will no longer visit...

There is something in my computer that makes the back button useless for all the ads that get loaded.
AND there is something that continually keeps clicking on the ads so somebody is really getting overcharged for their ads!!!

It is the doubleclick advert system that makes the back button useless.

I stand by my statement; banner ads are the devil... Anyone who disagrees MUST PROVE ME WRONG.

Sy, the banner ads here are managed by TBN, not a third party. Our money went straight to TBN for the ad and I still think it's a great venue for my wife's company. We thought(actually it was my idea) that advertising for a "captive" audience like Rural Living would be a good thing. We are all here because we have similar goals, and the first goal is to live out in the country where you can raise animals, grow your own food & have freedom that not too many here in this country enjoy. I have to admit that I am not too internet savvy and I thought the ad's on here would be embedded in the page...not something that could be blocked. In the past I have actually enjoyed TBN's ad's and did not even notice when Chrome went to the adblocker plus. We signed up for 3 months and I will let it run the whole length, then we will make a decision to run the ad again or not.

IXLR8, if you don't see any ad's then Firefox is blocking them for you. It seems that most internet hosts are blocking ad's for us...that can be a good thing, but like here, I want to see the ad's because most of them are about things I am interested in. I appreciate all the responses, it is goo to know that some of you can see them!
