As I was heading off to work my 85 year old neighbor was coming home from his daily morning walk and mentioned the elderly lady down the street had called the county to report a stray dog on her porch that wouldn't let her open the door because it was growling.

I remember seeing a lost dog sign coming home last night and go to investigate.

The very large Newfoundland puppy turned out to be the one on the flyer.

The owner works in the city and called my three times enroute to give me updates...

The 4 month old puppy and owner were happily reunited.

Seems a contractor had left the door open...

A Newfie growling? Doubtful, but if the old lady didn't know her dogs I suppose it would be scary & she might have imagined it. More likely it was whining for a cuddle. Sure glad it got back home safely.

LOVE the Judge, LOL!

I was growled at too as I approached... it was backed into a corner.

Seems the pup was out on the streets for 48 hours.

The woman's home where it spent the night is not an animal person and was rather frail... she had already put in two calls to the animal control that morning and warned me to be careful from behind the screen door.

Once the pup and I got acquainted... it stuck to me like glue.

All I can say is the owner was overcome with joy and so was the dog...

The owner said the parent is 150lbs... so even at 4 months, this was no small dog.

We had a pit bull cross dog show up on our job last night, had a collar. He barked liked crazy and acted aggressive, we gave him some water and he sat on out paint tarp the rest of the night.

I think once they are out of their element, they get nervous and the aggression is more out of tension/fear. I say that and will get bit by the next stray..

If our dogs ever get lost, I hope that someone as considerate and kind as You, finds our Dog or Dogs.

X2, that was a real kindness.

The two year-old lost overnight and found by Judge, that would be a parent's worst nightmare. Glad he was found with his Lab too.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing, but the subsequent responses make sense - lost and hungry and scared. Nice thing you did ultrarunner. I have a friend with 3 newfies. 150, 160, 180 lbs... Very nice but BIG enough to cause damage, even if unintentionally.
