Yup... Last night sitting in the hot tub! Not much for lights around me but clouds almost always in the way... yeah it's the PNW.

Despite every increasing light pollution we can see the stars and milky way just fine. I love looking into the night sky and seeing so many many stars. It's just infinite. We used to see the northern lights 5 to 10 times a year but I haven't seen them for at least 5 years. Maybe I just go to bed too early!

Now, you think in a corn field is good place to view it, try in the middle of the Atlantic. Can see most of the moons of Jupiter with just a pair of binoculars. :thumbsup:

Was just through Knox two weekends ago. Kid had a cross-country meet at Culver. We went to Bailey's in North Judson and were going to stop at Richard's in Toto, but spent too much time at Bailey's. :laughing: The star gazing occurred off of 25 just west of Meteo between Logansport and Rochester.

I could see it just fine as a kid in our yard. I have never lived more than about 2.5 miles from where I grew up. I can't see it now due to the development in the area over the past 40 years. Therefore, I assume most people in our town 40 and under have never, ever, seen it. That is truly sad.

The "Northern Lights" of course are tied to the 11 year sunspot cycle. There have been some displays this year, but this sunspot cycle, (cycle 24) has been a disappointing cycle overall. Both from a radio propagation viewpoint and Aurora displays.

Steaming onboard Navy ships in the middle of the pacific or indian oceans at night under darken ship conditions, it was amazing what the night sky looked like.

Why? is it missing?
Seriously, we can see it just fine here in the Northern Neck of Virginia on the banks of the Potomac. Just need a clear night without fog from the
river. The light pollution from DC or Richmond doesn't bother us too much here in between. Had the little telescope out last week for a look-see.
