F350 vs competition

Good thing Ford is quicker.........because you will be doing it two to three times more than a Cummins or Duramax.

And then there was this post- from (Would like honest suggestions about tow vehicle issues) post 105
Which indicates a Major failure of 14 blown motors & 8 blown transmissions out of 32 trucks with the 6.7 liter Ford in the last couple years??

The trucks we use are ford F250-450. They are not taken care of by the drivers and they run all the time. Anyways last year they order 32 new trucks with the 6.7 to replace some aged 7.3 and 6.0. Out of the 32, 14 had blown motors and 8 had blown transmission to date. I do remember them talking about some issues with glow plugs breaking of and falling into the engine, but im not sure if thats what cause the engines to blow up.

This seems to back up Paystars statement-

.... Personally I'm still afraid of all of them since they out DPF on them in 07.....they add so much heat to the engine between the extra fuel burnt in the DPF and the egr adding heat these engines will never last like the older versions...

At least for the current 2013 diesels the Duramax has the best way to handle the DPF regenerations. The Duramax is the only diesel which actually uses an extra fuel injector for the DPF to get things hot enough to regenerate. This keeps exhaust gas temperatures during regeneration down compared to the other manufacturers and also eliminates the oil dilution problem. It really is a good idea and I'm surprised that the others haven't picked it up yet. I know my oil stays considerably cleaner on my new truck than on my 6.4 Powerstroke. And I'm not saying all of this because I drive a GM. If money was no object I'd be driving a 2013 Ram CTD Mega Cab with the Aisin automatic, as I really think that is the best on the market right now. But I was happy to buy my second choice considering that I was able to buy it for about $6,000 less and I've been very happy with my truck since purchase and don't regret my choice one bit.

There's no way that is accurate. My old Cummjns makes quite a bit more torque than that at lower rpm.

almost looks like they reversed the torque vs. HP graph?? 3rd gear pull ... here's the factory 2011 ratings 2011 cummins hp and tq 001.jpg The torque should be at its max somewhere between 1400 and 1600 rpm

That does seem like a better way to do it! I change the oil in my RAM a bit sooner than scheduled just to make sure the oil dilution is never a problem.

wow.. just read all 14 pages of this and all I can say is that im surprised everyone is giving this so much attention.
No doubt, Ford set this up, flmed it, and put it online ONLY because they knew the outcome would be favorable. If you are going to cite the specs of the Ford in the video, its only fair that you cite the specs of the competitions vehicles.
All that being said, I do not care what Mike Rowe, Sam Elliot or Howie Long have to say about the choice of vehicle I choose to own. What they say will have absolutely no bearing on what sits in my driveway. Furthermore, IF I committed to spending 50K on a new truck of any brand, thers no way Im going to intentionally stress it that nuch for no apparent reason. Driving with that load in those conditions is irresponsible and unsafe. If you took your new truck in with the pistons melted out of it and the torque converter blown apart, while bragging about a video you put on youtube of what you did, dont you think Ford would void your warranty?
Its just senseless advertising that has almost as many half-truths as the current liberal media!

I remember Howie Long making fun of the "man step" on the Fords in Chevy ads. I notice Chevy is putting a step in the corner of their bumpers now. I guess its not such a bad idea after all.

Ha, good point. Except that bumper step is only a few inches lower than the tailgate anyway, so how much good is it really?
All these tests need to be filtered before buying. Ford came out with this video just in time to deflect attention from the heavy duty long hauler tests that came out today, showing Ram beating the 2013 Ford F450 in several categories. Yep, the new model Ram beats the old model Ford. Chevy doesn't build one to compete in that heavyweight battle. In less than a year the Ford 2015 will be out and will leap over the Ram again. Maybe by then, GM will have a model to be include in the test too. If you want a new HD truck, there are a lot of difficult decisions to make.

I'm 51 years old now and the man step seems like a good idea to me.

I can hardly wait for the new Ford, the 800 plus ft-lbs from the Ram seem pretty weak to me.

I'm a month or so shy of 51 too. I passed on the tailgate step option on my new F150 this year, but I did get the bed side steps and use them much more than I thought I would.
My truck has less than half of those 800 ft-lbs, and I sometimes wonder how I survived on half of what I have now. :)
