Welding table for nebie

I got a piece of 1/4" plate a little bigger than my small rolling workbench and just set it on top. Works fine for my small projects and rolls out of the way.

That sounds like a good small project solution. Most however would advise at least 3/8 and preferably 1/2 or above for a welding table top to minimize warpage. Not so practical for a temp solution like you have but if one is going to bother to build a dedicated table, best to go thicker than 1/4.

I have a 1/4 " plate about 2' × 3'. Its rusty but I could clean it up. I was considering fastening it to the shop wall with heavy hinges and have supporting legs of 4x4. That way I can get it out of the way when I'm not using it. What do you think guys?

You will have sparks against wood to at least some degree. Fire issues?
