Contact your state wildlife department that regulates deer, bear etc. They should issue you a kill permit for crop damage. Then eat the bear. Paybacks.

And turn Yogi into a rug.:laughing::laughing:

Later,

I have tried this option also. Trust me, you DO NOT want to do this. You wallet will become very light in a hurry. About 10 years ago I shot a bear that continually chased my horse. Long story short , the DNR wanted to lock me up in the worst way but couldn't. I was simply protecting my property. It wasn't worth the harassment from the authorities however...

SSS

Officer was either ignorant or willfully ignored the law allowing a farmer to protect self and livestock.
Officer needed to be reported to several DNR bosses up the DNR chain via a letter from your lawyer.

Letter to the editor will get some action too.

Another thing to consider. The bear probably will not get zapped by any electric fence until the wire actually touches their skin/mouth/tongue. I don't think hair is a good conductor.

Oh no, The DNR was all for it. This even went to the states attorney. I had no less than 5 DNR officers of various ranks at various times question me about this.

I think your location is all the explanation needed for what happened. I don't think the response would be the same if it were not on the east or west coast or NY state. The primary thing in such a case is that one call it in when it happens. The DNR does not want to find this out via the grapevine. I know that when hunters kill mountain lion that are causing predation issues out west, there is a specific time interval by when the kill and its location has to be reported to avoid prosecution.

The biggest mistake I made was calling the DNR and telling them I shot the bear that was chasing my horse. However, I work For the Federal Bureau of Prisons and losing my job over this was not something I wanted to happen. SO, I did the right thing and called it in.... I giess that is what I get for trying to do the right thing.

Oh, and yes, the DNR in "Marylandistan" are pricks....
