Don't be so sure on the Quincy long life span. I bought one 14 years ago for the home shop and it has been a turd for just having a couple hundred hours of operation. 3 set of blown head gaskets and last year a reed valve broke off on the high pressure side and dropped into the cylinder and wedged itself between the piston and cylinder wall for while running. Quincy does not just sell the reed valves separate from the valve plate but at least it was only $160 for the assembly but then I had to buy head gaskets again at $31 each. But at least it pumps up slower now with groove cut into the cylinder wall.
As for the IR compressors I purchased one at work (10hp T-30). The compressor pump is made in India and the motor is a WEG made in Taiwan. The pump casting is porous cast iron and oil was weeping out of it shortly after start up. The fix from IR was to wash the weeping areas down with brakekleen and apply a wicking grade of Loctite to seal it up. It worked but really. Since then it has gone 2500hrs without a problem.
In my maintenance shop at work I purchased a 5hp/2stage Speedaire from Grainger 11 years ago and it has been flawless. I would buy again in a heartbeat.
If I may ask, which Quincy model di you have the problems with? Thanks.
