Just got the announcement. We WILL be offering a diesel in the new GM mid size trucks built here in Wentzville, MO. This IS for the U.S. market.

Unfortunately, they said no diesels until 2016 though. They could have hit the ground running with diesels in the mix sooner, to take advantage of the booming truck sales. But at least they are planning to offer them.

Excellent! I think a lot of people will be very interested in a small truck capable of 30 mpgs (hopefully).

Great news !

Are the engine details public yet ? From what I've read, the 2.8 turbo-diesel used elsewhere puts a gas V8 to shame, so I'm guessing something smaller for production ?

Good news, but ain't much. I want 40+ mpg. Toyota could easily get this by buying VW's 2.0 liter turbo diesel and dropping it into the 1995-1999 Tacoma bodies. Would yield 45+ mpg, as the base body weight of that Tacoma model was a little less to a little more than 3,000 #. If the 2.0 liter were dropped into the present 3,500 # Tacoma, the mileage would still be about 39 mpg, as it's only a little less than 10% heavier than the VW Jetta that does 45-49 mpg on the highway and about 41 overall.

From the email I received:
  • 2.5L I4 - 190hp/184lb-ft
  • 3.6L V6 - 302hp/270lb-ft
  • 6 speed auto
  • 2.8L Duramax I4 turbo-diesel . . . . US figures not released, but in global markets up to 200hp/365 lb-ft
  • 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 will NOT be offered
  • 6,700lbs trailering capacity

Not saying that it doesn't play a roll, but aerodynamics is the big killer of highway MPG

I would be scared to death of a new DMX diesel, for a few years anyway. JMO

Need more pickups that look like cars in front then, for better aerodynamics. Present SUVs and pickups look like huge bugs with their mouths open. BIG air gulpers. A waste. Lots of nice looking, more aerodynamic pickups in Australia.
