Wrong Wrong Wrong, do some more research, plug in only applies to the Plug in Prius, which is sorta similar to the Volt. The regular hybrid doesn't plug in and is not like the diesel electric locomotives either, the locomotive has no storage battery, the diesel generates electricity that is sent to the drive motors. The Prius uses a combination of gas engine and battery with electric motors. Keep working on it, but be careful, you might get sucked in..

Really? Show me a verified technical article that demonstrates that U.S. hybrid city/hwy tests don't start with a pre-charged battery, that was done before the test. Where did that electricity come from...Hmmm...? Is it converted to gas energy usage ?

If'n it cant't be pluged in, starts the test fully charged and ends the test fully charged should not factor in.:)

Unfortunately that's not how they do it.
Think about the fact that they can go 11 miles on pre-charged electric power for the gas consumption "test".
Kind of outrageous EPA approved marketing when you think about it. But then again buying one is subsidized y all...

I forgot: I don't what any hybrid owners to be upset. I have nothing against them. I'm just posting the facts on the intentional mis-information on the MPG figures.

Guess the dealers don't show customers where the plug in is, I've not found one on mine, maybe you have a picture? I know that the Plug in Prius has a plug, but they didn't come out till 2012.

As I posted in my follow up 'nevermind' post, that ONLY applies for the PLUG-IN Prius.. and, from what I read, that 11 mile range, isnt..

Napa has a Honda Insight. They are getting around 48MPG with it delivering parts. The drivers will leave it run and talk to me for a half an hour sometimes so the average could be higher.

I see I'm still loosing you on this one. I'll re-word for a final try:
The EPA approved city/hwy #'s posted/advertised by car makers have only accounted for the liquid (gasoline) fuel consumed during the tests.
It's been that way for years.
Since a hybrid also has a second fuel source (large battery)+electric motor, that fuel was not being reported. This allowed Hybrids to start the EPA fuel efficiency tests with a pre-charged battery, that got it's energy from a plug in charger. The tested hybrid car then finished the EPA mandated 5 cycle routine, but at the end it had discharged it's battery and this "pre-paid for" energy was not required to be converted to equivellent gallons of gas it would take toi charge it back up.

This is a big part of hybrid owners getting less MPG than advertised.
Fortunetly there is enough consumer pressure that the EPA and car makers are being shamed into changing the 5 cycle fuel economy testing rules to account of this false advertisement

Hasn't that correction already been made?

From:

That test was revised in 2006 for the 2008 model year, in part because early hybrids were performing far better on the agency's test than in real life.

With those changes, the fuel economy of the Toyota Prius plummeted from 51 mpg highway and 60 mpg city to 45 mpg highway and 48 mpg city.

No that's different. That's dealing with the loophole that allows them to not test a new design, but to use data from a "similar" model
