Any one seen a drone?

What this on Local News tonight,

Drone tries to sneak contraband into Georgia prison - Investigations

So basically the Drones will be used by both the Gov. and Private Criminal Sectors,;)

Tobacco is a "deadly substance?" Who writes this stuff?

I think a private drone would be cool to fly over my own property. I think the new perspective would be beneficial. I could see farmers checking crops with them. Wildlife monitoring might be less disturbing than in-person visits. Large building inspections. With an infrared camera, they could look for heat. There are really many things they would be legitimately useful for.

Shoot it down and see what happens. Drone law is vague at best right now and im sure the ACLU would help in a violation of privacy lawsuit. I hate it when the gov over reaches.

Good Evenin Steppenwolfe,
Im kinda on the same page as Bob, a good goose gun with a real long barrel, actaully it could become a sport of sorts.....;):)

Except maybe the biggest moonshine location in the world (Franklin County). They're probably looking for stills. They've done it with small planes for a long time. I've read a newspaper article about someone getting arrested for shooting at a cesna that was searching for stills.

Keith

Franklin County is 5 miles from me. We have found 3 old still sites on our property. I just don't like the idea someone can stroll over my property any time they want.

I could imagine one flying 50 feet above you would be very annoying! Seems like there is some expectation of privacy. I was told by my Father that their attorney told them it was illegal to set up a video camera to record your neighbors activities even if it's from your property. I know in the rc multi motor community, they never refer to their quads etc as drones and are very vocal about safety and privacy!

I have planes over my house all the time (under a landing pattern for an air-force base). They pretty tightly regulate the area, though there are plenty of private aviation pilots too (sometimes I'm one of them).

Years ago, they arrested a farmer who was shooting at, and hitting, B52's landing at Wright Patterson AFB (Dayton). They were nuclear armed SAC bombers returning from patrol.

Yes, I know the nukes aren't supposed to go off in a crash, but still in all, I don't think I would like to take one down nearby where I lived!

A friend has a Quad-copter. It has a mount for a Go-Pro camera. I think it has about a quarter mile distance. He shared some videos he took with it and I was impressed.

The first Drone I saw was a styrofoam model used in Tikrit Iraq in May 0f 2003. Had no offensive capability and could just barely take pictures. Took three Soldiers to launch it. Usually suffered structural damage on the return landing. My second tour in 2006 I saw the current version.

I'm all about Drones. I hope (and they probably are) the Military is advancing the Drone's capabilities at the fastest rate possible. Saves countless lives. If a person thinks they shouldn't be used at every given opportunity, I suggest they volunteer to physically go check out whatever the Drone is observing.

As for privacy, you can go on Google and get a dated arial photo of your property. Zoomed in enough to tell if you are home or not. Have been able to do that for at least fifteen years.

Shoot it down..... Reminds me of the movie True Grit. "That's big talk for a one eyed fat man". ;)
