Well we celebrated the 42 to 41 victory of Ohio State over Michigan by taking down the big hornets nest.

4 layers of combs. That's a lot of bees

I'll bet that is a lot of bees, pacerron! Too many for my comfort! Will they come back next year, like red wasps and yellow jackets, or be gone for good, with the nest gone?

Sundry coyote, Brandi, one of my favors,, I call it coyote jerky,, can be served along with a good wine (lots of it),:dance1:, yes and of course blue cheese dressing,:confused3:, it’s as if someone here was reading my mind,, Lou
Lou: All was good until the Blue Cheese part. I would request a different dressing. I work really hard so that I don't have to eat moldy cheese!

I know when I was a kid,, there was an old man that lived down the road a few miles that ran deer with his dogs.. they were a cross breed between a greyhound and bluetick,, now I would think that it's illegal running deer not crossing breeding,, The dogs would run the deer right to him.. He always had plenty of deer sausages.. pretty good shot also.. anyway little bit of Oklahoma history.. Lou
Lou,
Running dogs was legal in San Jacinto county, back when Dad and I, with some others, had a lease on the creek separating Montgomery and San Jacinto county. Dogs would run the deer by my stand. In the thick woods around my stand, my scoped 7mm mag. didn't have a chance at a short range running buck. I could hear the thrashing in the woods while the buck was running, but he came too quick to put the scope on him.
If that dog would have came by, I would have tried the Coyote recipe on him for sure. But the dogs were smart and stayed across the creek.
hugs, Brandi

Hopefully they won't be back there, but they will be somewhere near for sure.
That end faces west so the weather may do some cleanup over the winter but that bee glue is really a bugger
to get off so I'm sure we will have to do some more to clean it next spring.

Man, aint that the truth!! I have been there several times over the years and it is mind boggling what you will find. Tons of neat stuff if you look hard enough.

Are you old enough to remember when they called it "First Monday" because it really was held the first Monday of each month. And then they started letting people set up for their sales Sunday morning, but were not supposed to buy or sell anything until after noon Sunday. It was that way in 1967, when I became the first active recruiting officer in the Dallas Police Department. I had a car with a sign on top, instead of red lights and siren (it did have those in the grill), and it had signs on the sides and fenders. I'd go to smaller towns, put an ad in the local newspaper that I'd be at some particular location in town on certain dates, then I'd go back in uniform and that marked car to talk to prospective applicants. And that was the only time I've been to the Canton Trade Days.:D

Here is the view from my front porch, this morning. Makes the coffee taste even better! And I might actually be learning a thing or two about my camera!

Beautiful picture of a Texas morn. I think you will have a lot of those in the upcoming weather patterns for December. The storms for the east will originate in your neck of the woods. The skies on the coast this morning are angry looking and the ocean is rough nothing as serene as your picture. Thanks for sharing

Thanks, ...

Texas is a nice place to visit probably. Too hot for me. :D

...

Texas is actually on my short list of places to ultimately retire, assuming I live long enough. The only thing missing is adequate rainfall and I have read this thread for a very long time in hopes someone would say if there is some area of Texas where there is adequate rainfall. No dice, and I've got to have rainfall. Hot is OK.

I mean, I spent time in Louisiana and it rained every day. Spent time in Oklahoma and it never rained. Surely there is somewhere in Texas where it rains? :)

I think the part of Texas I would invade  is E. Texas, but far enough north and west to evade the coastal humidity. Maybe that is wishful thinking. I've never spent much time in Texas. Visited the cousin in Goldthwaite, and in Austin many years ago. Traveled across S. Texas as kid on vacation, and attended a business thing in San Antonio about 12 years ago.

Edit: Add "The Last Picture Show" to your movie list. I think that is set in W. Texas.

Jim,
My kids and Grand daughter were at my ex MIL's house. She invited me up to their lake house for Turkey dinner. I jumped at the chance, as I wanted to see my Pumpkin Doodle. In the first photo, from the first of the week, she still had a slight fever and congestion. But she is all smiles.

Yesterday produced the last two photos while she was playing. Still all smiles.

hugs, Brandi

Brandi, your "Pumpkin Doodle" sure has a sweet little smile and a chubby little face with a mop of hair.:) She looks to be 15-17 lb, maybe more. My grandson is a little over 17 lb and sitting up by himself. He's already trying to crawl, just hasn't got all his limbs working together yet.:D Of course, I can't let you get ahead of me in the picture count, so I'll just have to post three pictures of my own of my great-grandson, Noah.;) BTW: That's my granddaughter in the 2nd photo. I wish we had her mother in the photo so we'd have 4 generations. Oh well, maybe when my hair grows back they'll pose with me again.:)

Ron, that wasp nest just brings one thing to mind. Theres an old saying my Mom used on me to teach me how NOT to make plurals of some words. "Waspes build nestes, out westes, on postes as big as my fistes." That nest is definitely bigger than my "fistes," maybe even two times as big. Must be some of those imported "waspes" from west Texas.

I feel for you, Foreman. You need a Segway to get around that place. . . well, at my age, you do. Your son would love this one decorated up for Duck Dynasty. It's only $8.5k. Get your letter to Santa early.;)

I worked cows that morning and got straight into wifes truck to go(on way there wife naggin she smelled cow poop,in her new truck),wasn't until about 3hrs of walking,I was regreting the steeltoe work boots I always wear, should have dug the NIKE's out:laughing:

Bird I'm 34 but do remember it called first monday,we had family in greenville and sulpher springs,so always went as a youngin.

When you hair grows back, you need to wear your funny hat again in that photo of 4 gen.
