If it were in VT you would have to make sure that there was absolutely no lead paint or asbestos in it or you would get fined heavily. That much construction debris would attract attention here. The owner would get the required permits here. Just a thought - may not apply where you are.

Will the debris go into roll-off dumpsters? The cost of those could be paid directly by the owner, or listed as a pass-through cost on your bid.

Very good point. If it was built before 1978, there is very likely to be lead based paint, and probably asbestos of some form or another. Legally, those materials are supposed to be bagged and tagged by guys wearing funny white suits and then disposed of in a regulated landfill for those materials.

A lot of people ignore these requirements and get by with it. A few don't, and it really sucks when you're one of the ones that doesn't.

well the owner has a demolition permit form the city and it was a very old house but it caught fire and was burned really bad so it really nothing but rotten wood and a roof not sure how to get pictures on here or I would. it doesn't look bad and he just wants me to tear the rest of it down and pile it up for him. he may want me to load it but then we will decide if he wants me to call a dump truck or him. I don't think it will take me more than a day to do. just wondering if the price differs for demo as to just digging a simple ditch or hole by the hour or job.

Thanks, Tyler

Price to reflect risks. He may have permits, but you may need some too, and need insurance for liability. Something happens - you get the finger without insurance.

Check with your local landfill to see if they will take "burned" material. Some jurisdictions will not as they assume the burned building probably contained toxic or hazardous materials.

Check with your local municipality regarding ALL your requirements on a local level, and have your insurance co. send your customer a 'certificate of liability' with the address of the demolition named on the document to him BEFORE you move your equipment on site. CYA:thumbsup:

You might consider burning the remains on site if that would be allowed. I did a house about twice that size with a small dozer. I got it down in a couple hours and sort of organized it into manageable piles. Then dug a trench about 40' long, 8' deep and 10' wide. Pushed a bit in and lit it. Once you get it going, just add to it. You'll get almost a 100% burn, except for metal parts. When all is said and done, cover the trench over, and away you go (with $500 in your pocket).
