First post here. Been lurking for a while. Really like the tips and shared knowledge of country living.
Last night the coyotes killed my mother's little rat terrier we were keeping for her. We let Prissy out for her business last night at about 8am. When she did not answer our calls, we searched for her. Eventually we heard whimpers across the fence in the 100 acre property behind us, then a louder moan with the yaps of coyotes. We knew immediately she was in trouble but our search until midnight was in vain. Our (larger) outside dog is usually nearby when she is out...but he was not this time apparently. Late this morning after more searching we found her body in another neighbor's pasture at least 200 yards away and thru fence line brush. Our guess is she was dragged there as I entered the larger acreage last night in the search. It is obvious from the injuries that she died quickly.
This is our first loss to the coyotes since moving to the "country" 14 months ago. Neighbors tell us of losing cats to the coyotes and to hawks too. We regularly hear them in the wooded acreage next to the 100 acre property. More recently they have been more bold...we have seen them in pairs on our driveway in the past couple of months.
Any tips on hunting coyotes?
