Front mount blower

Thanks, and for the earlier reply too. I don't plan on getting a hydraulic-run blower. I was sort of curious about the match-up between the required/recommended gpm's for the blower, and what the tractor's gpm's rating is. I guess that would be total rating minus the power steering pump rating usually. If the tractor is low or below the recommended blower gpm, is it just a matter of going slower, or handling less snow depth? I assume it would be the same as an under-powered pto drive. My neck is still okay with looking backward. The hood on my heavy coat doesn't swivel with my head though and I end looking backward at the inside of the hood with one eye, and at the driveway with the other. If I pull the hood back, that makes the wind change directions. The same scientific principle applies as smoke following you around a camp fire.
my unit runs off of its own independent hydraulic source..not the tractors. the 3 point unit supplies 15 GPM at 3,000 psi.

What tractor will you be using? (I now see the JD4520) And, you want a non-loader mount front "snow blower"? If you have a mid-PTO that would seem to be the direction to go. I think if one has an existing loader and some resources to DIY then that is

an option also. Here is what I have done with my Kubota L4610/ LA852 pin-on loader (you drop off the 72" bucket). I have used my 3 decades old rear mount snow blower since it is as good as a new one. You can see it is now front

mounted on the loader but could be on a smaller "ad hoc" front mount as you desire.

It is a simple system......... lifted and rolled by the bucket controls............. the blower is rotated ( up to 20gpm) by the tractors Independent PTO that drives the pump that drives the Hyd. Motor at the blower.

The rear hydraulic tank is obviously separate from the L4610. The last pic 6 shows my rig this spring. The pic 1-5 show what is done to move the blower from rear to front.

Hopefully this will end the "rear view pain in the neck"!

I just love front mount for snow blower; that's where they belong! Where I live, they are so many sharp turns, obstacles and curves... They are a breeze to work with... I was also looking for going hydro all the way, but with a 22 hp tractor, I decided to go with a mix set up: hydro for the rotation and angle of the tower, and run the snow blower from the mid pto. The extra cost of going full hydro was a bit steep for me, and with my tractor, it wouldn't throw the snow as far as a pto driven snow blower. So I got a mid pto, shaft, gear box, modified Martin 54 inches. Limiter for the FEL (you don't want to extend over the limit of your pto and hydro connections). So far, it's great set up! And I' m able to run my box blade from the rear, instead of having a huge hydro reserved.

Are the hydraulic hoses disconnected to your FEL so that you can't inadvertently raise the loader??

Actually there are limiters installed on both sides of the FEL, this method has been refined by Payeur's Distribution (Ascot Corner, Eastern Township), on the pic I added two arrows indicating the steel bar. That way, you cannot make any sort of damage... Plus for summer activities, there're quick to disconnect. The CK20 was perhaps a little bit small to be operating solo with hydrolic. The mid PTO is driving the snow at least twice the distance, and I can switch the 3 points from forest winch, from box blade, or anything really easy. If my description is not clear I'll try to do it with more detail?!

Here are pics of the Erskine with rear pto drive and full-length under-frame. It looks complicated but by taking out three pins the whole thing drops so the tractor can drive away. It will chew through any pile - I've never missed having the FEL available. They are spendy to buy new but they can be cheap 2nd hand. Pics are from a 6' yellow 720FM and a newer grey one widened to 7'.

I've seen them for well under $2000 on Craigslist. I've read of, but no personal experience, that they can be problematic (which would account for the depreciation).

Once one of these has been adjusted to fit one tractor, fitting it to another may require a different front bracket and/or frame length adjustment, hydraulic hookups etc. Handling and modifying a bulky 1200 lb machine can be more than some people want to do. But once fitted it's hard to beat for ruggedness and reliability.

flyingcow, here's a before and after pic. Only had about four inches of snow but it works sweet. Needed to fine turn the shoe's as it was digging in a lot. First impressions are very positive.
