Mine came with an inline rad hose heater which I'm glad it's there! 1 hour and she is warm to go. Been getting -45C windchills last 3 days; ouch! Good thing I didn't use the tractor!

Hi gabmux. As others have said the inline heaters are a great alternative if you don't end up going with the block heater. They are also easily replaced if it happens to burn out on you. You will need one that fits a 1.5" hose. Let me know if I can help you.

Just did a quick search for you and not much comes up on actual block heaters. Seems that most use the inline type and most also reccommend against the magnetic and dipstick type.

I have a brand new Nortrac (Foton) 25HP tractor that was having trouble starting in the cold. I was back and forth with Nortrac and was convinced there was a problem with the glowplugs. Nortrac kept giving me small fixes, none of which seemed to help much. When I admitted that I was not using the coolant heater as I have no power in the shed where I keep the tractor, the service manager highly suggested I use it. I ran a cord to that building and plugged the heater in overnight. The next morning the machine started within 2 seconds of cranking. I would highly recommend one of these as a inexpensive easy fix.

Mine does the same now that I have the glow plugs fixed; I use a 200w magnetic block heater though. Not a big fan of the inline coolant heaters.

What does a measly 200W stuck to the side of the block do ?

Magnetic block heaters are worthless. I own 2 or 3. Nothing close to a block or lower coolant hose heater.

200 watts = 11.4 BTU's/minute. So, if it's turned on for 30 minutes... Well, you're smart enough to do the math.
I used to use the magnetic heaters on the skid steer hydraulic reservoir before I switched to multi-vis hydraulic oil. Worked very well.

most of the heat is lost to the air when stuck to the side of the block. Considering the thermal mass of an industrial or farm engine. 200W will not warm it unless you think 32F is bitter cold.
A 200W heater under an oil pan or tank will do a half decent job in some circumstances.
Can't beat an immersion heater that warms the coolant inside the engine and gets the heat right to the combustion chambers.
