TnAndy...no ERC on your land? That's odd.....it's like weeds everywhere in our neck of the woods. I have so much I mix it in with my hardwoods when starting a new load in the stove. I agree, it's the best kindling, only second to lighter pine which is kinda scarce around here.

What I've observed about eastern red cedar is it seems it's only found growing where there are limestone rock sticking out or just below the surface of the ground. It must require a somewhat neutral to alkaline soil to grow. Most everything in my immediate area is sandstone.....my spring, for example, comes out of sandstone, and the water is extremely soft.....little bit of soap goes a long way !

But if you drill a well, you do hit limestone in most cases, about 100-200' down. I don't know of a single cedar tree of any size in my whole valley....but just a short distance away, exposed limestone, and lots of cedar.

Each shed holds about a winter's worth of wood. Two sheds = two years. And got the material ready for two more when I have the time to get 'em done....so that will be 3-4 years worth stored ahead.

Beats stacking it out in the open like I used to do.

I think these are great personally. Up here where it's a lot colder for longer, I need approx. 4-5 face cords to heat my house for the winter albeit I have a masonry heater so only need to burn 1 to 2 fires a day even on the coldest days. I have crappy wood shed I put up quickly but do like these and if you don't mind, may 'borrow' your idea with perhaps a couple minor changes. I like neat wood storage especially if it's close to the house.

I have posted my method before but this is my method. I store it in my lean-to so it gets good airflow and I can access from both ends. I can haul these racks with my splitter into the woods and split at the tree. I cant think of a more efficient way.

Great Wall of Wooda

Like the baskets.....but unless you have a source for them cheap, it would be dang expensive for me to build enough of them to do me.

I only paid $10 for each. Bought 20. They are available if you look at surplus places or drive through an industrial area and chat about.

Does you stack them with the B7800?

Does you stack them with the B7800?

Yes I do. There is a noticeable difference in weight between wet wood going in and dry wood coming out. My B7800 has more strength curling the bucket than lifting. What I have to do is pull up to the bottom rack and curl the basket back and rest the basket against the lower one. I keep pressure against the basket with a little forward pedal and roll the bucket and lifting the loader at the same time then back away and curl the bucket again. It works well but it is the limit of the loader for sure. Obviously I should have mentioned I have forks. I estimate each full basket weighing 800 lbs going in. It would probably help if I had a quick attach bucket and forks to bring things closer to the tractor but it has been working fine for 5 years now and my forks go on quickly. The power steering is also maxed out and have to be moving for it to work sometimes with all that weight. I have proven many many times that the B7800 is indestructible with the exception of my dropping a tree on it a couple years ago causing about $10,000 damage, but that is a different thread hopefully archived and not viewable. lol
