Karen and I are going on a cruise out of New Orleans in Feb and will be spending the night there before leaving. We've heard that we can park at the hotel and they will shuttle us to the ship, but then we have to get a taxi back to the hotel to get our car. That sounds great to us, but we don't know the area or where we want to stay. We also don't want to spend $300 a night. Half that is fine, but not much more. :D

Who knows New Orleans and can suggest where to stay and what to see there? Neither of us are big on partying, but we do enjoy new foods and really love architecture and history.

Thank you,
Eddie

Getting to be Mardi Gras time there in NOLA in Feb, $300/night territory. Having said that try the Holiday Inn by the stadium.

I forgot about Trip Advisor. I've used them before to review hotels overseas. Thank you.

I'll look into the Holiday Inn. Thanks.

And while you are there pronounce it as Nawlins ,not New Orleeeens .That is what the natives do . We stayed in a timeshare on the river about 5 years ago . I think you would enjoy all the action on the river . Huge dredges , tugboats , lot going on . Enjoy .

Sorry, I've lived just outside New Orleans for well over half a century and I never heard anyone call it Nawlins until the media started using that word about 15 years ago. No local says Nawlins or New Orleeeens. We all say New Or-le-ans.

Eddie, Mardi Gras is on March 4 next year so the hotels will be more expensive the last 2 weeks of February. If I knew what date you were staying over, I might be able to help more.

Secure, easy parking at the port is $16 a day if you want to stay in a cheaper hotel out of town and drive to town.

Are you cruising on the Sunshine, Elation, Jewel or Serenade?

We are on the Jewel, leaving Sunday the 9th.

Eddie, if you want to save on the high price of downtown hotels, I recommend Quality Inn in Gretna. Its right across the river from downtown and the bridge is now toll free. They only have a few rooms left so I recommend booking now. Its listed at $110 a night but I heard you can get a free shuttle back and forth across the river to the French Quarter and the cruise terminal and park while you are on the cruise plus the room for $129. You should be able to see the Jewel from the hotel.

You will have a great cruise on the Jewel. Its one of the few ships that goes to Costa Maya where you can take a short cheap taxi ride to walk the Malecon and visit one of my favorite hangouts. Fernandos 100% Agave is a local restaurant, nothing fancy, that serves very good local dishes and great drinks at a very cheap price. Last time we went there, 2 of us ate lunch and we had 2 margaritas each plus a couple of free drinks and the total was under $20. It is mainly locals and definitely not a tourist trap. They are on the first street from the Malecon.

On Roatan, the semi-sub ride is great.

On Belize an excursion to the Mayan ruins is a must.
