I own a 95 3500 chevy, 4;56 gears, 4x4, 5speed manual. Truck will pull the handle out of a maul but cant drive by a station without stopping. I also own a 2005 gmc Canyon 5cyl, 4x4. Gets 24mpg interstate driving, about 20 around town, but aint worth a hoot for towing, just not enough power. Personally, if you gave the Canyon a little more power, it would be the perfect truck for me. A diesel coming out in 2015, ummm, just about the time I will be due another new truck

I don't think the Hino is EPA approved. By going with a Cummins they get instant name recognition and they don't have to deal with the EPA.

I think it was a J08E (8l, 6 cyl, 260hp, 585 ftlbs) in the concept. That engine is available in Hino Trucks in the USA. Probably more realistic would be the Hino J05E, 5l, 4 cylinder, 210hp, 440ftlb, also available here, in Hino Trucks.

I think there would be no problem in putting a light truck engine into a pickup from the EPA? Im not sure however.

Cummins may have a fair bit of name recognition to many pickup truck buyers , but Hino has a VERY solid reputation in Light/Medium truck range and are pretty well known in their own right. Hinos are also found in a lot of heavy equipment out of Japan too, like many of the Hitachi excavators. Hino is no stranger to our market.

For Toyota to have a completely in house option would be a selling point to many.

Diesel costs how much per gallon more than gasoline ?

consistently slightly higher than premium in my area, but I'm not doing truck stops either.
Regular is usually 30-40 cents cheaper.

Wrong . A 400cu" six cylinder will produce less emissions and burn less fuel than a 400cu" eight cylinder. The 400cu" eight will usually make higher peak HP.

It depends on what component of emissions we are discussing. Larger displacement is used to cool the exhaust via EGR......specifically targeted only at reducing NOx which is created at high temp. The SCR catalyst finishes off the residual NOx.

Of course, this reduces thermal efficiency so they use variable geometry turbos & high pressure unit injection to counteract. New diesels are a real mix of technology, hence the $$$$ price tags. No more "charcoal grill" motors.

The larger volume combustion chamber , the lower the ratio of cold combustion chamber wall. Cold metal raises CO and HC.
