Thanks Topkicker. I like what we've seen and the observations that you've shared. I'm holding out for one with a heavy duty manual transmission. Not getting my hopes up though.

Built an extended cab w a manual last week. Not sure of the option package. Just noticed the manual tranny in chassis. It had not reached the body at that point in the build.

I'd love to see a manual available.... but let's not get too excited..... :cool2:

That early unit could be for export markets ?

+1

There seems to be a lot of buzz about the new Colorado. I've seen it in a number of the trade rags. Hopefully it doesn't eat into market share of the Colorado, but I fear that is exactly what it will do. In fact, I am thinking about downsizing to it from full size half ton truck.

Haven't visited the post I started in a while. I've been working 10+ hour days at the plant and worked this past Saturday also. We have been building 2 pilot trucks a day and must say the finished product looks beefy and bold for a small truck. Body fit and paint finish is exceptional for this early in the build process. We have a black Z-71 extended cab on display in the plant equipped with the V-6 gasser. Love the ride height. It really does give it a larger appearance. I still don't know a price point yet. I do know that it will be priced comparably w the Tacoma. I'm ready to see sellable units going down the line with all the different colors and options. Just giving everyone a quick update on the progress.

Fingers crossed..... with a bit of luck, it'd be nice to see stick back as a full-size option too !

Very encouraging Topkicker, an extended cab manual is exactly what I want! So where are these trucks being built now going? Are you just building a few variations as test vehicles or will they be shipping to dealers at some point?

Right now we r running only 1 to 2 trucks a day. These units are not sellable. They are going to GM test facilities. We will start building units for dealer inventory mid year. Its unclear how many of the new trucks will be exported. The largest portion will be sold here. I was extremely happy to find out the diesel option will be available to the U.S. market. To my understanding, the manual will also be available to us.

Does the 2013 Ford Ranger pickup belong in the US market? - Autoweek

note the size range of diesels in the Ranger equivalent
Good looking truck also, and being based on a Mazda,
might be a bit lighter. A tech comparo between the two would be interesting.
But the prize goes to the bold, and it looks like GM is in the lead here.
Or perhaps more accurately, the least slow to get in the game.

And the fact that the Colorado is built in Missouri, well that does count for something to me.
Just like my Suburban was built in Texas.
The way it used to be...though I do consider Canada part of "us" and I guess at this point, better
consider Mexico too... My two Grand Marquis were nice cars, built in Ontario.

Trucks are traditional money makers for the builders optioned out the way we seem to like them.
So I don't expect this Colorado to be any great bargain. But now that the range for conventional diesel trucks is in the
$50-70K range, perhaps $40K for a diesel Colorado will seem like a real bargain. That's still a lot of money and a lot of profit.

The real-world driving reports that I've seen on the Ranger diesel indicate that it's getting close to tdi mileage.

After watching "Who killed the Electric Car", I was reading a bit on the EV1. GM did a diesel hybrid test version, that delivered 80mpg.

Oh yeah..... that hybrid - 0:60 in 7 seconds.

I better stop typing, as mostly expletives are coming to mind......

Yesterday, I bought gas for my truck. I noticed diesel is priced 21% higher than 87. The government has definetly allowed/helped structure the pricing so diesel uses don't save $.
