My base TelCo bill is ~$35. However, add to that ~$20 in taxes and fees. Oh ya, and they charge me a $6 "Shortfall charge" for not making enough long distance phone calls every month!!! Bottom line ends up being about double of the plan they sold me. What a racket...

.
I went VoIP for home phone w/e911.. only have 'cause I have the grandkids here, otherwise I use cellular. VoIP only costs $2.49 a month flat fee plus 1cent a minute for outgoing. Incoming is free.

The reason I use a land line is "0" signal bars for cell phone. so when get to other parts of the farm suddenly my cell phone goes crazy buzzing like a rattle snake. mostly other cell company's that has a bargain I can't afford to not to accept. they use same tower so still no signal at house.
For years the power and phone line stopped at our house but now has been extended upgraded but still no cell.

If you have decent internet, you can go VoIP - like Vonage, but thats expensive - and drop the landline. A very simple way is to use Walmarts 'BasicTalk' for $10 a month. Just plug and play. There are others out there like CallCentric or VoIP.MS, but they require you to bring your own adapter and require more fiddling.. they are cheaper though. I saved close to $40 a month by doing so.

We use VoIP now provided by the cable company. It's $37.75/month for unlimited calls. BasicTalk sounds interesting. I can't keep up with all the phone programs. Does that mean I'm getting old?

Like Ken, no cell bars in our dead zone. We would drop the VoIP service if we could get cell coverage at home. There is a weak signal that an amplifier would probably fix.

I guess I will have to rethink where and when I plug in my power wheelchair. I have plugged it in at various locations where there were outlets open to the public like malls, airports, ship terminals, Disney land, restaurants, cruise ships and even once while on a ferry. Having publicly accessible outlets invites public use much like an unlocked rest room. I can see when plug in cars reach sufficient numbers you will be tripping over extension cords anywhere there is an outlet open to the public.

I saw a Dilbert cartoon once where he was walking around the office with huge backpack full of batteries. Said since his pay was cut he charged all of his batteries during the day at work and used them at home at night for his appliances.

OMG, I took a sip of water at the water fountain during a high school basketball game. I did not have permission. Am I going to get arrested?

Oh and I was warmed by the heat from the school's HVAC system, I feel so ashamed. I did not have permission.

Oh, and I used the restroom....... I didn't have permission. Oh and I used wifi.......

If the school doesn't want their incidental facilities being used, they should not mount outlets for people to use such as water, electricity, sewer, wifi, etc. It is entrapment.

Were you told to not enter school property again without asking at the school office? If not, you should be fine.

I've not stole power but I was in a little village in Alaska, by the Koyukuk river sitting in the mayor's house drinking tea, when a little fire broke out behind the power meter. When i threw the main breaker , the electric sparks were still sparken, turned out he had bye passed the meter etc. and fed power directly into the house panel. Oops

Let me guess, he was heating inAlaska with electric heat? That is a wee bit more than 5 cents.
