As for the show being contrived or whatever, it is a comedy. Willie himself said so in an interview. He also said that he has to actively work to keep Phil reigned in a bit as Phil would rather just preach for an hour which is not the intention of the show. That is why Phil is not a lead character/actor/whatever on the show. He agreed to stay more in the background.

Not really my point. I'm not talking about gay marriage, I'm talking about how probably 90% of movies, Tv shows, and news programs are filmed, or produced in two small parts of a huge country. they try to control and contort public values to what they already have in their home base.

Sorry Paul I should have put more detail in. I was saying this in a different discussion on this group and I should say this in here. The media has one goal and one goal only. Make Money. Remember, California voted down gay marriage. I am an atheist and I am currently working on a faith based movie. We give people what they want (it makes no sense to not give them what they want). Are we influenced by our surroundings? Sure. But lets be fair here. Media is an art. Arts tends to be liberal, so there are more liberals than conservatives in the media, yes. But even artists need to eat, and most of us in this business want to eat well. So we make programming that you want to watch. Duck Dynasty is a great example of it. Do you think liberals would want to produce a show that features a christians with strong family and conservative views? But we have. Do you think liberals want a news network with conservative views? But it is a major network, with lots of liberals working for it.

In the end I hate to be such a downer but it is all about the Benjamins. Nothing more.

The difference is he is doing this on his own time. The interview on GQ was him talking about his beliefs. If he was on the show and wouldn't co-operate because he was trying to spread his own agenda then he should be fired. Yes he probably signed some kind of contract that he would not bring dishonor to the show (whatever definition that show deems appropriate) - then the consequences of his suspension make sense.

His job is Media. Media is a 24/7 job. It is why he is paid 200K an episode. He wasn't on his own time as he discussed Duck Dynasty.

First off I never said the media "manipulates"...YOU said that...

secondly..."we as the media"...:laughing: (huge belly laugh)...as for getting a clue...a media mogul like yourself should realize that it is the advertisers that "choose" what they sponsor...it is the advertisers that write the checks and pull the strings...media personnel are nothing but puppets...

The main reason A&E did what they did was fear of losing sponsors as a network... duh...!

Yeah, we is a big we, but no one here is in this forum is in the media except for me I think. I am no mogul, but I do well. I do know all about advertisers and the relationship with media (in terms of TV) and have made that very clear. sorry you missed my diatribe on that.

So help me Pine as you are so smart. Why are you going after the media if it truly the advertisers who are at fault? You are protesting against A&E. Why aren't you protesting to the sponsors who are ultimately the people you want to put pressure on?

I dont disagree with you on this. I do however think there is a group of media that is bothered by its success, and hoping for its down fall. I myself am anti controlling micro managing government, but I work for a city. I enforce their roles, even when I disagree with them, because I too like to eat.

I'm not protesting against A&E...I am a fan of the show but I was just making observations...

In case you didn't realize it but the Internet is is the quintessential "media"...and I have been making a very decent living from it since 1994...mostly by selling advertising or creating unique content that attracts both users and advertisers...I've also done IT work for some very big radio networks...

You misunderstood my comment (possibly in another thread) about the media shepherding the gullible masses...it had little or nothing to do with the entertainment industry...

I just have a problem with any employer suspending someone based on beliefs - especially religious beliefs as long as those beliefs don't rise to a level of harm to another group.

Hope we don't have to worry about our employers disagreeing with our posts if done on our own time.

The difference is that stars like Phil sign contracts that specifically state that they will conduct themselves in a certain manner. That includes what they say. Most movie and TV stars...as well as pro athletes sign similar contracts. Our employers do not make us sign such an agreement....then again....they don't pay you $200K per week to represent them as well.

I agree. I'm sure they live by a different set of rules than we do.

I just think the political correctness is out of hand in our society. The tyranny of the majority has reversed itself in recent years. You can argue that it's for the good or bad (personally I think it's for the good - but that sets me apart from very conservative neighbors) ... but I think we need to realize that there are people with alternative view points - often based on religious or political ideals - that we need to respect. Ostracizing only shuts down the conversation.
