That looks like a nice peace of machinery. What make and model was the discarded brush cutter? Is the main part of the blade mild steel?

The mower was a MG 10 Sidewinder. We had torn up 3 center T Gear boxes by hitting stumps, so got tired of replacing gear boxes.
The 90 degree gear boxes are 75 HP rated, 1 to 1.46 increaser ratio.

Not sure about the grade of steel. We talked to someone else who had built one & he said these people were knowledgeable on the wheels & he was happy with his. We liked his price, so just went with him.
We have probably put 8 to 10 hrs on it so far & have not rotated any tips.

looks mean... i bet you lock up pets wife and children in the house before using it.. :)

You definitely do not want anything near that could get hit. I did fail to mention, I would sure want a cab or some other form of protection. When cutting through a tree, most chips go to the side, but if you take another pass to lower it one inch or less, chips are hitting the cab heavily.

Thanks for the response. I could really use one of those.

I reckon you need to beef up the side plating on that. The energy in 4+ foot of 1/2" plate rotating at 540 rpm is mind boggling. Do some sums, but I reckon you'd need at least 3/4 plate around it rather than the 1/4 stuff it looks like. At the moment if that gearbox output shaft let go people in Mexico would be saying "What the F*ck was that!"

It does have lots of momentum. I have cut a 1-1/2" then moved & cut a 3" tree after disengaging the pto. It does slow down very fast (and can even bog the engine down) when it engages the ground, much like a rotary mower. It has two layers of steel between it and the tractor on the front side, and on the rear side it is below all the steel, so I can cut below ground level. Normally we are 1/4 mile away from any living beings.
