Hi everyone,

Has anyone found a better way to get diesel out of the container and into the tractor? The bendy plastic nozzles have developed splits in them, and I can't seem to find the correct replacements like you used to be able to get. I tried a third party one, but that leaked. :(

I'd use a funnel but it's hard to see how much fuel is in the tank when doing so. If anyone has found a better solution (hand pump that doesn't drip?), please let me know.

Thanks,

Jon

I use a hard plastic funnel w/ long spout. Works great. NO mess :cool2: As for seeing, I only use 5 gal fuel cans and top off when my fuel gauge says approx 1/3 tank left. I never worry about spillage, it doesn't flow over ever....I can just see the top of the fuel in my tank and gauge registers ALMOST full. Worth piece of mind.

Our state Governor about 6 to 8 years ago passed a law that outlawed the sale of any gas/diesel cans that didn't have that plunger type fill spouts. No more externally vented cans. What a pia. To hold 5 gals over the loader for 5 mins while an internal vent is burbing the container gets old fast. Enter the TUFF JUG. This dumps 5 gals in a little over 38 seconds. You don't have to hold it on the rim of the tank neck just steady the jug on the fill neck till empty (38 seconds). And as far as overfilling, that does not exist with the tuff jug. NO SPILLAGE when full it stops dumping fuel. Just lift off the tank neck and a plunger shuts off flow. Pricey but well worth my money.

I set the can on the tractor, take the spout off, and use one of the hand pump/siphons like are sold to fill kerosene heaters. Pump it a couple times and make sure you don't overfill.

I had the same problem until I found a used 300 gal tank on a stand with a gas station type hose/nozzle....life is much better now:D

I have two 50 GL tanks with hand pumps. One gas and one diesel. They are on pallet skids. When empty just load min the PU with the FEL forks and go fill at the pump then unload at home. They are a max lift for my BX25. Fuel never gets contaminated and pumps through a 10 micron water absorbing spin on filter. Each one is a $350 investment, sure worth it.

I use a couple old plastic 5-gal jugs that predate current laws. They have that bendy corrugated pipe on the nozzle, which could come off in the tractor's fuel tank. I've been meaning to drive in a sheet metal screw to prevent that possibility but I'm always in a hurry when it occurs to me.

In any event, the politicians that inflicted the current generation of tanks and nozzles on us should be punished, preferably by forced labor in a fuel yard for a period equal to their time in office.

Set jug on fender, take useless nozzle off it, take this siphon hose and place little ball check valve in jug, other end in tractor tank, jiggle hose up and down a few times to prime, walk away, check oil, etc.., empties 5 gallons in a minute or two

Lifting and holding up a 5 gallon can of fuel higher than the fuel tank gets old very quickly so I put the full can in the FEL and lift until it is higher than the fuel tank. Then I use a jiggle siphon to get the flow going and then lift the FEL higher to get a faster flow and go and watch the grass grow. No lifting, no mess, time to go and do something else.

pallet + white plastic drum + fill-rite electric 12v pump = heaven... (cost around 300$ worth of diesel to fill the drum)

bought the entry level fill-rite 12v pump and did my own plumbing, bought a manual nozzle with 16 feet 3/4" hose.

filling the tractor (DK45SE) now take less than a minute... instead of using my tractor's battery I just use an old ATV battery.

There was a LOOONG session on this a while back. Go on line and look up EZ Pour to buy yourself a new flexible nozzle. Your TSC may have some. You can also find new vents or buy them, drill 1/2" holes and put vents into your can/plastic.

I personally use a kerosene syphon that I bought at TSC about 10 years ago. I use it until the 5 gallon container is down enough so that I can lift it and hold it. Just sit the container a little higher or on same level as the fill hole to your tank.

Thanks to all who mentioned and posted those web sites for the easy pour and poly vent. I had to fill my tractor after plowing seven inches that fell yesterday. After some more choice words for those stupid safety cans, I ordered several for all my fuel cans. I wish they would just sell the old style and put a warning on them saying if you are stupid, you may blow yourself up. Thanks again to all.

Well, thanks everyone for the good information. I don't use enough to warrant a stand alone tank, as much as the convenience of it would be nice. I'll see if the EZ Pour will fit my cans and get some ordered. I'm ok to hoist the can for a while yet, I hope.

As a thank you, attached is a picture of a part of the lane I clear, taken just before the amount of snow down was doubled a few times.

Cheers,

Jon

Got tired of the jugs and the mess and decided to put this together. It's 55 Gallons of diesel and easy to load in the back of my pickup for a refill at the local diesel station.

Amen, that's what I did for both gas and diesel. I have the steel tanks and rotary hand pumps I fill both 2-3 times a year. I recommend you get the 10 micron spin off filter with the water absorbing media. Easier to keep track to get the off road use tax rebate also. Also i dose both with fuel additives when filling.
