My first maintance on my M59 is now completed, but I have a ? on how the engine sounds since the oil change. Before the oil change the start of the engine of course is a bit louder than when it is warm, however now since the oil change the start of the engine struggles to stay started as the engine is throttling up and down and its much louder more than it ever has been. It stays running and its fine after the engine warms, but it's not as smooth during start up as it use to be. This all started once the oil was changed, any info would help.

What oil weight and manufacturer did you use? What is the ambient temperature the tractor is stored at before compared to now?

Did you change a fuel filter?

Any air can make for one rough running engine and an air leak in the fuel system can make it recurring.

I used 10w-30 oil with the spec ratings specific to this engine. (CF - CI-4) No I didn't use Kubota brand oil, but reason being the dealer I purchased my tractor from told me that I was fine using oil with only CF or CI-4 rating, but only that. The fuel filter has not been changed as of yet.

Things to check:

1. If you changed hydro filters, ensure that the suction and HST filters were installed in the proper locations. They are not interchangeable.

2. Check all fluid levels.

3. Check oil filter; ensure it did not internally self destruct. Some after-market brands have some history of doing so.

4. Check air filter seating.

Running differently? Exactly how? It obviously shouldn't. It would help to know a bit more on the tractor: Hours, history, which filters and oils...things like that.
Where did you find a (CF-CI4) oil that was not CJ-4 ?? I found some of my old Rotella T 15-40 met that rating schedule...as did Deere 15w-40 a few years ago.
I should have bought a drum of it because the newer ones say CJ-4 .... a rating which the M59 operator manual warns against using. (pg 71).

I had the shop do a full service on mine at 25 and 100 hours before going to the 200 hour schedule. They were honest and did OK, but of course this type of maintenance falls to the rawest new guy in the mechanical garage. So I wasn't surprised when I started doing my own service to uncover several little shortcuts they had taken. Nothing major.

I agree with what RFB just posted. You need to check each one of those.
luck, rScotty

How many quarts of oil did it take?

Not sure whose you are asking. Mine takes roughly ten quarts....plus or minus a quart depending...
