The in store welder specifically does NOT include the torch or torch consumables, even though online it says it does and then down on same page says it doesnt. Would the $299 HF be just an incrimental upgrade or an entirely higher class of machine?

That is probably the one with the torch included.. That is also to much money for such a crappy welder IMHO.
The PA-200 is cheaper than that.

If you want a decent welder, you really should look somewhere else than Harbor Freight! Use your coupons for hand tools or something of that nature... not a welder.:banghead:

Maybe I aim higher?:D

I think there's a lot better choices for not much more money.

The way I see it that thing will be useless for tig and a argon bottle will cost you almost as much as that welder costs (at least around here). You could buy a much better used arc welder for less than that. They seem to be a dime a dozen on craigslist and they are on there for ever. I have my share of hf things but try to avoid those with a power plug on them. Will it work? Maybe. Will it work well or be any fun to use? Highly doubt it.

HF is OK for cheap tools that can get you by if you don't use them much. A professional carpenter wouldn't use their hammers anymore than someone who welds for a living would use their welders.

A friend of mine bought one of their MIG machines off of Craig's list "just to learn". I tried it out one day, at least he only waisted $40 and not their full asking price.

I looked at 140 Everlast and Longevity welders. Not in person online but the Everlast wasnt too bad. Longevity wanted more for a 2 yr warranty then the actual machine.... think it was around $248 purchase and $280 for the warranty. Im guessing they must replace Alot... im going to hold off on purchase
