Hi Mac2411,

Looking at the specs, the 1533 and 1635 are nearly physically identical. Ground clearance is 14.2" for the 1635 and 14" for the 1533. It would appear that the 1500 series lower than the 1533 are physically smaller. Thanks to others for pointing out the transmission, I will stand firm for either the 12 speed or HST. Still appears to be a few new 1600's around here. I'm counting on a few folks jumping in on a new 1700 and maybe I will find a gem.
This would be a (pardon the expression) no brainer for me and I would be driving the newest and biggest I could afford. But two kids just one and three years from post secondary plus the boy who has saved up his money to get his first car. Well, dad has to help a bit with the car:) Nothing a lot of us haven't gone through. One thing I do know for sure..I will have my back side in a Massey! I'll take my son with me for the test drive :) I do think the ergonomics of the 1635 are pulling me that way. But depends on the deal for the 1533. How about annual maintenance? Is the cost about the same for keeping a Massey running all year vs other makes ? Assuming common sense use through out the year.

FYI: I'm not sure the 12X12 Powershuttle is offered in any 1500 series tractors, but you can get the hydro in some of them.

I believe that it was before the 1600 series. When the 1600 series came out, then the 12x12 was no longer available in the 1500 series. So looking at a used machine, it may have the 12x12 trans. ;)

The 12x12 is offered on 1533 and 1540 only. So the book says :)

I bought a new 1533 8x8 shuttle last May and so far so good. Just had the 50 hour service done on it and it would've been $200.00 if I hadn't had him throw it in on the deal. I use it mostly for bush hogging, grading and skidding logs, and it's done everything without sweating. I don't have an issue with it being the 8x8 shuttle, I just put it in the gear I want it in and go. I don't know about prices that your getting, but for the right money there's not a thing wrong with the 1533.

Prior to introduction of the 1600 Series the 1533 had transmission choices. After 1600 Series Intro (2007) the 1533 was only offered with 8x8 Synchroshuttle. The Power Shuttle and Hydro were available in 1635.

Thanks MO MF Dealer. Well, I sat in both. While I was impressed with both. I sort of felt I was more comfortable with the layout of the controls on the 1635.
