Wondering what others are doing about insurance coverage for their tractor?

Seems as though the tractor can be added to a homeowner's policy and I
understand that one should insure the tractor if it is used off the owner's property.

What is your experience/thoughts?

Limited experience, but this topic comes up here quite often.

Kubota will insure your tractor and will cover it for theft, off property use, transporting, etc. Contact Kubota. It is pretty popular.

Otherwise, shop insurance with an agent locally. An Inland Marine policy may be in order. A typical homeowner's policy isn't setup to cover your tractor that suits your possible needs, in many cases. Ask your agent about a rider and if the agent cannot provide the coverage you're looking for, ask to be referred to someone who can.

I have insurance on all of my equipment. (2 tractors, 5 mowers, 3 trailers, etc). But all of mine is used for business, not personal. I buy an 'inland-marine' policy that covers for theft, vandalism, accidents, natural disasters, and just about anything. I pay about $600 a year for this coverage, which I think is not bad as far as insurance goes.

I wish I knew why they call it 'inland-marine'

Inland marine insurance in the United States indemnifies loss to movable or specialized types property, historically developing as an outgrowth of ocean marine insurance. This category of insurance includes property coverage for construction equipment, medical diagnostic equipment, fine arts, solar panels and wind turbines, cameras and movie equipment, musical instruments, and a wide variety of other types of property.

Wikipedia. That well known, infallible source of all things. LOL

Kubota insurance covers all.. period....take it or leave it. I took it several years ago but am now leaving it.

7800 - value ~$18,000 when new

2012 = $142 for full coverage on and off property (homeowners may or may not cover off property and transport)
2013 - $184 same coverage.

They keep going up. I'm dropping Kubota and reverting back to homeowners. Risk management and associated cost.

Yep... several threads on the topic, especially Kubota insurance. I have the KTAC (Kubota) insurance as I financed it and insurance is required. It is quite comprehensive... and I found it better all things considered vs. my homeowners. But beware :D... I was recently reading the 'fine print' and a few of the 23 exclusions are:

Not covered for...
loss caused by declared or undeclared war
loss caused by the explosion of a nuclear weapon
loss caused to collateral used in any race or speed contest
loss caused due to certified act of terrorism
loss caused by nesting or infestation by or discharge or release of waste or secretions from insects, birds, rodents, or other animals

I'm thinking all but the last one listed here are highly unlikely so... pretty good coverage? Most of the rest are due to illegal activities of the owner/user. That said, I am pretty sure homeowner's would be similar. One thing that is important though, homeowner's typically doesn't cover off your property. KATC does.

I added mine (with an itemized list of attachments) to my homeowner's policy covering fire, theft, liability. Mine doesn't really leave the property except in those rare occasions when it has to go in to a shop for something I can't fix.

I financed mine Nov 2012, ins was req. I checked everywhere and Kubota's has the best coverages, best payouts and best rates - at least for me. KW

I'm thinking if you are looking for coverage for those other 4, you probably have bigger problems to deal with.
