OK, peeps, sell me on a .380?
I just can't justify the size of the round.
My .357 should get the job done.
My .45ACP should also get the job done, but, a .380, I just don't see it.
Now, if you are lucky to shoot the bad guy in the head, good shot, but
if you only hit him in the stomach, I see you just making him/her mad?

A .380 with proper defensive rounds can be effective to stop a threat, but it all runs down hill from the .45ACP on down..But concessions have to be made for season and clothing. Many experts will say that the .380 is as low as they would care to go down the scale for a defensive cartridge.. But if all you can handle is a .22LR then so be it. It is better than a sharpened stick. My low end that I care to carry is 9MM. with good defensive ammo. But many take comfort in their .380 and I would consider it myself.

I don't have one, but I have steered two lady friends into getting 380 revolvers. Taurus and S&W make them, maybe some others do. They're small, light and being a revolver, always go boom when you pull the trigger. Being hammerless, they don't snag when drawing from a purse and they're easier to maintain and clean than pistols.

Just a thought

But if a woman is good in how she uses it, it can get the job done! :)

I'm considering the purchase of a .380 (keltec P3-AT, LCP or the Taurus TCP 738 - any opinions on those?), primarily because I would be planning for pocket carry (inside a pocket holster). The main reason for this is comfort, and as many have said, a .380 on you is better than a .45 at home. I see a tremendous number of folks that are (I believe) attempting to carry concealed using a waistband holster around the small of their back. I say I think they are trying to carry concealed because it is tucked into their pants and their shirt is over it, but it plainly "prints" through, or is visible as they move around, bend over, etc. I would rather not have my carry gun so visible. A lot of the times in the summer (and many days in the spring and fall), I'm wearing jeans and a T-shift, so pocket carry would be easiest year-round.

I've also seen some Sneaky Pete belt holsters that look like PDA/smartphone cases. I like that idea from a comfort standpoint, again, but I'm not sure about it from a security standpoint. Anybody have any opinion on those?

I'm also in the camp that I feel that if a .22 is all you want to carry, I'm all for it. I personally don't want to get shot with anything, be it a .22, .380 or .45.

Our instructor, whom I thought did a very good job, said that the best thing you can do is to remove yourself from any situation where you feel threatened without drawing your weapon, if at all possible. If you can't, then you should only draw as a last resort, because in all likelihood, your life will change for the worse no matter what the outcome of the encounter is.

Good luck and take care.

A self defense fire arms instructor said that a study showed that no matter what the caliber, it took multiple shots to "stop a threat". So shoot what you're most comfortable with.

No permit at all to carry concealed in VT, for now. **** people moving here want to recreate their urban utopias from south of here, so no idea how long it will last.

The anti-rights push in VT is being funded by Michael Bloomberg (the fascist former mayor of NYC) funded group Mayors Against Illegal Guns. There's also an organization called Gun Sense Vermont which is a funded (by guess who) PR outfit.
Bloomberg's stooge in Burlington is Mayor Miro Weinberger

We can squelch this, but it's going to take communication to our fellow gun owners...and even the guys who don't care for AR-15 rifles must realize that these groups won't stop with requiring carry permits or banning AR-15 type rifles...they don't stop until they get what they want...NO GUNS in private hands.

And here's one of the most frustrating aspects...I was working (as a temp) at a job just outside Bethel (after I got laid off from Vermont Castings). One of my co-workers was a gun enthusiast...built AR-15 rifles. I told him about the BS from Burlington and the need to not only contact his (ours, actually) local reps and senators...but he has to VOTE. His response was he didn't vote and "it'll never happen here".
That's what's killing us...

Not only is this good advice, but this is a fact. I pray I will never have to use my firearm to defend myself.
