who makes the store brand chese products that look like velvita? ( walmart and I think publix and windixie have it ) plenty of it on the shelves...

As stated previously, I think the HEB Velvetta copy is is very good. Probably other Major stores have great copies as well.

What is it about HEB? On my only trip thru Texas a couple years ago(Took our 5th wheel from N. Calif to Corpus Christi, and back) it seemed like HEB owned the grocer business in Texas. We have chain grocery stores here. But it seems we have a much greater variety. In Texas, it seemed like all I saw was HEB, with an occasional IGA.

Around here, we have a few locals, IGA's, Raleys, Safeway, Bel Air, Nugget and a few others

We have Kroger, Brookshire's, HEB, Albertson's, Fiesta, Minyard's, David's, Elrod's, etc., in Texas, and probably many others. I think some just have a bigger presence in certain areas. A few cater to certain ethnic groups, so they are only in those areas, where there is a higher concentration of those groups, such as Fiesta and Elrod's.

As far as I know, there are no HEB stores as far north as Dallas, but when we lived in Navarro County, we had one in Corsicana. My mother would never trade anywhere else if there was an HEB in the area, partly because of good service and products, but mostly for their reputation for charitable activities.

We only have one Brookshire's in this area, but I just read a news article in the newspaper this morning about a new one being planned. Walmart, Target, and Kroger's seem to be our most successful ones, with Albertson's still hanging in there in spite of some of their stores closing.

HEB is based in San Antonio. Great stores, great service.

Bird this is a favorite I use Italian Sausage Add Green Peppers and Jalapenos. Stuff is great. People who have never ate will stare at it until they hypnotized by it. Drink about 11 Old Styles and go visit the Mother in law

Nope. I'm gonna eat it; got a crockpot of 2 lbs. of Velveeta, one pound Pernell Old Folks medium sausage, and one can of generic Rotel simmering right now.

Back in January, there was a warning of a Velveeta cheese shortage, so I went and bought a couple of boxes, and then I never saw any sign of a shortage, every grocery store in this area always had plenty in stock.

So this morning, I read a news article about beef prices going up due to the drought in Texas and increased demand from Japan and China and pork prices going up because of some virus that's killing pigs. So we went to Sam's Club this morning and bought about $150 worth of meat (at the same prices I've been seeing there for some time).

So now the rest of you won't have to worry about those prices going up. In fact, they'll probably go down.:laughing:

Started up 4 years ago in Spokane, Wa (50 miles away from me) and are now nationwide. Pre order/pre-pay for bulk meats. Pricing looks good (Boneless, skinless butterfly chicken breasts $1.79 currently), reviews on the 'net look good. they go direct to producers and sell in 40lb bulk packs. Local "events" where they set up a truck full at a location and you pick up your order there. I discovered they have one of their locations only 15 miles away from me in this sparsely populated area.

I had never heard of them but it looks like a good way to save some money. Getting together with friends to split the 40lb packs down to reasonable size would be in order
