Taking the flu vaccine now is like peeing into the wind. By the time it is effective, flu season will be over. Maybe that is why hospitals and doctor's offices are "giving it away" to their empliyees. They can take the tax write off, for stuff they would never be able to offload otherwise.

The health care workers have already been vaccinated long ago at least in our part of the state. The Hospitals gave the first doses, not the left overs to their employees.
"Texas Law
TMA worked closely with the Texas Pediatric Society, and the Texas Nurses Association and the Texas Hospital Association to support the legislation which goes into effect on Sept. 1, 2012.The legislation requires each health care facility that is licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services, to have a policy that identifies the requirements for vaccination for each employee or anyone that comes into contact with patients in their facility. This includes physicians, volunteers, or others that are not directly employed by a facility. This requirement comes from Senate Bill 7, passed by the Texas Legislature in 2011."

In the hospital that I went to it was mandatory for the employees to either wear a mask 100% of the time all year long, get a flu shot, or get fired. They are not thinking of taxes but liability. Too bad the flu shot only covers a fraction of the flues out there.

Jim, I did the same thing I poured the little tube into the large tube and marked all 11 inches. Now the marks are gone and I do not feel the need to remark. Last year I think it overflowed into the big tube about 5 times. You really do not have to worry about the top blowing off unless your's is built different than mine.

Okay ... Has anyone tried the "Zello" phone app that's makes your smart phone a "walkie talkie" ???

I downloaded it and then had two friends do the same along with my USCG son .., he's in Cuba right now and dad gum it it works ... A walkie talkie in my hands ... Works by a username password and send an invite to another username and wala ... Instant push to talk !!!

Never did I ever imagine modern tech can be amazing as well as fun

I've never heard of that one but I use an app for phone calls and texts called Viber. How good does the walkie talkie work?

However, my mother did get the flu shot and she had the same I had flu three weeks earlier, but my father who also had the flu shot did not get it. The only common similarity between the people in my family who get the flu and those that do not is eye color. Blue eyes OK, Brown eyes gets flu.

txdon- I'm of the opinion that in my family the ones with blue eyes are just a quart low.

Blue- Will that app work on my Jitterbug Style Phone? The wife and I are both pretty low-tech, and she takes a lot of abuse at work being the only one in the building without a smart phone.

Last night was my first night and it was very clear ... Works by activating Zello then hold the push to talk on your screen and release when your done talking

TXDon; I was referring to Western's posting that his wife's work place was sending out the vaccine now for free to employees and their family. IOW, they have more on hand than they can get rid of this season, and are trying to clear it from the refrigerators.

Considering that vaccines are preserved with heavy metal, (Mercury), and even the FDA has stated: "There is NO safe acceptable level of mercury", I hope when the hospital staff has health issues from heavy metal poisoning, they can sue their current employer, if it doesn't cover their medical costs then.

I'm not anti-vaccination, just anti-OVER-VACCINATION. Some vaccines have saved lives, but as has been proven with postings here, the flu vaccine is totally "hit or miss". But we each weigh the risks V. perceived benefits in everything we do in life.

The deaths from the flu are like the summer West Nile scare. There are deaths reported, but most have other underlying health issues. Taking the flu vaccine now is like peeing into the wind. By the time it is effective, flu season will be over.

It's my understanding that the vaccine takes a couple of weeks to be effective, and the flu season has at least a couple of months to go. If you don't get the shot and don't get the flu, I reckon you can say you won that round of Russian roulette. After all, the odds are 5 to 1 in your favor.

Would someone explain to me WHY anyone does not get the flu shot? Fear of needles? Fear of side effects? Cost? Inconvenience because of the time it takes? I just don't understand at all.:confused3:

I also know of problems caused by vaccines. It is a syndrome called vaccinosis. No fear of needles here, but fear of too much heavy metal poisoning, coupled with the fact that I do not believe the flu shot to be effective at preventing the flu. TXDon got vaccinated, and nearly died from the flu.

I'll get vaccinated with vaccines that I think are worth the risks, flu vaccine just happens to not be one of them.

FG, the staff at her job got vaccinated like 3 months ago, I just didn't run to the "front of the line" for it. There is no doubt, vaccines have saved countless lives in the world. There are risk driving to work too. Thirmersal is in some vaccines, not all, but I wonder how much mercury comes through our food and water supply?

How many people DONT know they have underlying conditions?

Got my Flu shot last October in MI. Hope it works in TX.
My rain gauge is empty. Not a drop in it even from light morning dew we have been getting last few days.
