It comes down to average fleet mpg. Ever worked on a PT Cruiser or whatever GM'S version of it? The parts are not found under passenger cars, they are listed under trucks. When Dodge put the Hemi in the trucks back in the early 2000's they needed to offset it's 10 mpg. To do so they took the Neon, put a bigger body on it, and the PT cruiser was born. They then flooded the rental car market with them to get the numbers right to meet the EPA's Fleet Average. Same thing is happening right now. Ford loosing weight and new tech engines. GM, AFM and multi trucks. Chris

There is as split. Car segment and truck segment. I've always worked on the truck side for GM. You are right about the PT Cruiser. It did make an off set in the average MPG standards in the truck segment because it was considered an SUV which put it in the truck segment. When GM built minivans, they were considered truck segment also due to it being a multi passenger (over 5) vehicle. The rules are and have been changing. I'm sure you are aware of the "gas guzzler tax". If a vehicle fits this category ( the ZL-1 Camaro for instance) the Feds require the tax to be on the window sticker (around $1300 on the ZL-1) and is passed on to the customer. The truck segment is being looks at differently now. With the MPG requirements, there has to be change in the trucks themselves. I'm really surprised that Ford didn't come out of the gate with a small, fresh, new truck like GM. Instead they are tossing weight w lighter V-6 engines producing V-8 type HP and using more aluminum than any other truck manufacture. It's a bold move but I'm sure a lot of testing and engineering has been put into the new F-series truck. Only time will tell. If the longevity of the truck is compromised and costly repairs follow, they could loose a lot of customers. It's a wait and see game.

Yes it's a gamble for both. The Canyon and Colorado don't have the best reputation when comparing it to Toyota and Nissan, the only competition in this segment. This new truck is light years ahead of those old ones. GM listened to the customers and are putting out a product that can compete. My only fear is its size and cost. You are so close to a 1/2 ton will it sell? It about the size of a full size 1/2 ton, and more capable, then the 80's and. 90's era GM's.

Will Fords plan work? Jury is still out also. Like you said quality issues could really hurt if they did not due their homework.

I HOPE GM learned it's lesson w the previous mid size trucks. They were not bad trucks (even had a V-8 option) but were priced WAY too close to the 1/2 tons. They are going hard after Toyota's Tacoma. It dominates this open truck market after Ford dropped the tired body style Ranger. Price here is the key and that's up to the GM gods in the glass round building in Detroit. If priced comparable w The Tacoma (which is the goal here) it will sale.

VW just sold their 100,000th small diesel in the US. I own one. They did not do their homework on my
particular late model Golf because the intercooler works so well that in the winter it creates problems, icing up,
sending slugs of pooled water into the common rail injection system. Not good. Mine already died once. Now it has the 800 dollar
intercooler upgrade kit, and I have had zero problems. GM does NOT want to do something like this with the diesel, and I'm hoping they take all this
extra time, after the teasing, to make the diesel perfect. Italian diesels are not something most of us have had much contact with.

Hey Sam, look at my Ferrari engine!

Upon second thought, maybe I'd rather have a 5.0...

I hope they fix the Ecoboost problems this year.
Intercooler sending water through the intake, poor electronically controlled torque converter causing stalling and shuddering at low speeds, random misfires and Check Engine Lights, etc...

Which HEMI truck got an EPA rated 10 mpg?

Looks like another new member. Welcome to TBN. First post is see and a great name for this thread.

Boy I would hope they fix these problems too. Must be uncommon because they sure aren't hurting sales. Who would buy one knowing these problems exist? Maybe they will find a fix before mine developes any of these symptoms. Now you have me all worried.

I think the srt-10 was rated for 9 MPG city. They built about 9500 of them. Not certain if it was a hemi though.

That's weird. Don't see it either. I didn't delete it. Oh well. Yeah. Post pics of that Power Wagon. It's one of those trucks the general public don't know about.
