New Ford F150

Wasn't thinking about the unlimited.... I agree, it took a lot of the wrangler's off roading advantage away. Not saying that's low, but isn't it still less than a similarly configured 2500 Hemi?

Not sure but it's plenty for a power wagon if I need to pull more than that I'll fire up my 6.7 CTD. I think there is a couple of things that come into play in the power wagon. One is tires they come from the factory with D rated tires I assume for the ability to deflate the tires for rock crawling. The power wagon rims have a factory beadlock built in. The other is they do have a softer rear leaf spring setup for flexing. These trucks ability to flex/articulate is incredible. But the other components such as the frame is identical to all other 2500's so a set of E rated tires and air bags and it would be every bit as capable as any other 2500.

I was in no way downplaying the capabilities, in fact I remember when they were first introduced... I wanted one. But I thought I remember them being somewhat less capable from a towing/hauling standpoint, though still more than adequate for most things. I was just pointing out the trade-offs.

Ok, 116 inch wheelbase on the unlimited isn't that short and make one with a road suspension which is where 90 percent of them spend 100 percent of their time. The Wrangler unlimited is not very well suited for off road anyway and most are sold to many demographics who like the Wrangler but not off-roading. Too many wishes? Or have another manufacturer make something to compete with it. I think the Raptor can tow around 8000 lbs.
The Unlimited is a great off roader w a few upgrades. The factory Rubicon Unlimited does well stock. With a lift and some taller tires, you can go all kinda places a truck can't go. I have a Rock Krawler lift w Bilstien shocks. Rides great on road and performs like a champ off-road. Pulling.... That's a whole nother story.

Yes aftermarket parts are the key. I have a TJ model with a lift kit, big tires, smitty built bumpers and winch, etc which greatly improved it's off road performance. We drive a lot of old strip mines here that are tight with trees, quick slopes, and sharp turns which make the shorter and narrower TJ necessary. Open crawling and trails are fine though for the unlimited as long as you don't get high centered. As you say, definitely better than most trucks. The extra 5 1/2 inch width of the JK model has upset some die hard offroaders but the JK has a better stock suspension.

Your right about the jeep being low on the tow rating. Never understood why they didn't put at least the 4.7 liter v8 in it. The smaller Dakota I had towed 7000 lbs. with that engine. I would own an unlimited like yours in a heart beat if they upped that rating. Who wouldn't want a wrangler sitting at the campground?

You ever towed with a jeep? They are awful with the short wheel base and soft off road tuned suspension. Now maybe some of the newer ones are different but my ex's husband has this one and it's a adventure with a 18' boat behind it.

Jeeps are great for what they do but tow vehicles they are not.

Thus the reason for my second post.

Just So people know since it was mentioned the 2013 power Wagon like mine is rated Payload 2,398 lbs max towing 13,400 lbs

Those are good #'s for this type truck. It can go over boulders and still pull a big trailer load. Nice.

I don't mean this as being disrespectful or hostile but are you sure on that tow rating for the Power wagon? Everything I see on it is around the low 11's. I looked at them when I was getting my 2500 but needed a little higher rating and even back then I was pretty sure it was around 11K.
Either way, they are a GREAT truck and one I really like.
