Just wanted to post some information I got this morning. A brand spanking new head from John Deere that will fit a 3T80 motor (from a JD 850) does cost $855.

However it comes with NEW valves, springs, guides, keepers, seals, and studs!! That over $300 dollars worth of new parts in the new head.

Part # is AM877960

If you have a head that is so tore up that it cannot be used for a core, this would be an option. Because of the $450 core charge a remanufactured head would cost $1000.

I also have to edit some data that I posted earlier. The front and rear chambers for the 2610 are the exact same price!!! I was looking a data for a 336 not a 2610D. I paid $35.91 each for the front chambers. The rear chambers are the exact same price from Hoyles. THANKS AGAIN!!!

Well, after replacing head, 2 liners, 2 pistons, bearings, rings, and rebuilt fuel pump everything is running again. Cost $1500.00!! But now it starts WAYYYY easier.

Power difference is unknown because its a fresh engine and I am babying it for the 1st 50 hours. Once I have 1 hour on it I will re-torque head, change oil, and put new oil filter on.

My $5000 dollar tractor is now a $7500 tractor!! That includes the turbo, new injectors, upper and lower chambers, injector lines, front seals and bearings in front end and loader. Still not too bad for a tractor and loader that has a fresh motor in it. Still kicking myself a little for not spending the extra $200 for a brand new head and valves. But at this point everything seems to running fine.

Pretty sure its timed right but I tried the JD method and could not get fuel to stop running out of hose. So I must be doing something wrong or its not the proper way to time a YANMAR.

This darn motor runs so clean now you would think it had some sort of emmission control devise on it. At idle the absolutely no smoke at all. While running at low rpm (< 1800) minor black smoke for couple of seconds until engine gets up to rpm..

This is a good thread. I learned a bunch here and there. I got to rebuild a 3T80J in a JD-850. No diesel mechanic for nearly 50 miles from the house.

Prices for the JD parts have dropped a good deal. Not sure if that is good or bad since the parts might be clearance and after that no more to be found. hmmm

So, anyone know if the 2610D is still going strong?

It may be an old thread, but is very informative. I have a YM1702D, as does another thread from 2007 and hope mine mine goes thru life without these problems. For all you grey market Yanmar owners, be advised Deere dealers cannot sell parts for a "grey" Yanny or they will lose their Deere [support]. (Can't think of the right word)

That's not correct. I can and have bought parts for my Yanmar from a Deere dealer. In fact, This same Deere dealer told me that they would make any repairs to my Yanmar I didn't want to make

Kenmac, you had better luck than I did. My local Deere dealer was once a Yanmar dealer and was still listed under the heading Yanmar Parts in the yellow pages.

But their service manager had a tantrum, a real meltdown, when I asked if they could do stuff for me that was over my head such as splitting the tractor if I ever needed a clutch. He started ranting how he had gotten burned ordering Genuine Yanmar parts for the grays (back before that was cut off) that were found to be incompatible. I tried to interrupt and insist mine was a US Yanmar, in fact he may have sold it new, and he wouldn't listen - he just kept yelling. Darned unpleasant. That was in 2003 and I haven't been back.

YMMV.

It's been a few yrs . I asked if they would make any repairs I didn't want to do. At that time they said they get their yanmar parts from Fredricks and had no problems making repairs as long as they could get the parts.... Policy may have changed since I asked. I did go visit them last yr ? and told them I needed the rubber boots (for grease)for my steering arm. I told the parts guy the boots were for a yanmar 3110. He said he didn't know how to cross the part. I told him the same as a JD 950..He sold / ordered me the parts. Fredricks didn't have the parts.. All he had were tie rod end boots

I stopped at a local JD. dealer to get parts. The Parts guy said he couldn't get parts for my Yanmar which is a Ym2000 ?? I stopped to get Blades and a Belt for my NTM. FM. which he couldn't see on the Trailer. Not the Tractor A- Hole the Mower. He' looked alittle harder and Replied Oh!!! Never even thought about trying to use JD. again which everthing on the 2000 I can get parts from Hoye/Fred. and do myself. Believe me the 5103 I use doesn't go there. I take it 20 miles further away were it was bought after that one. Matter of fact it's due to go in as soon as The truck gets out from it's Maint and Repairs. I'll see what they say.

Support from dealers varies by dealers. Kubota is the same way. Some dealers will treat to you like the scum of the earth & others don't care as long as your money is green. Why not just buy from a Yanmar dealer? I have JD owners call for parts because they think they are cheaper than Deere. I have quite a few JD dealers that buy parts from me because they don't know what crosses.
