Why I hate North Carolina

Yesterday, 2 hour school delay because a chance of "dusting of snow".

Last night on the news, they had about 7 pictures of back decks with a dusting of snow, if that, barely white.

Last week, school cancelled because it was too cold.

You know when you turn on the news at 10 at night and they lead with the chance of 1" of snow for the first 10 minutes there isn't much news.

All that said, I'm never moving back north:laughing:

Could be all manner of news about blizzards, below zero temps, murder, rape and high taxes. I'll swap with you any time.

Don't forget that you were barefoot, wearing hand-me -down clothes that the legs and sleeves were too short with patches on the knees and also it was 5 miles to walk.

Really?? Southern drivers?? Most of the accidents I see are overly cocky northerners who think they can drive perfect no matter the conditions. Since we have so little snow and ice here there is no reason to have all the equipment necessary up north. Our mild winters are why every Tom, Dick and Harry move here so stop your bitching and just enjoy it.

Actually I did have to walk 3/4 mile to catch a bus for the first few years of schooling. School rooms were heated by wood stoves that the kids had to bring wood in during recess and lunch time to fuel them. I think it was around 6th grade that they got propane heaters in the rooms. Never did have AC, just open up the windows and try not to sweat too much on your papers. But that was OK as not many folks had AC at home either. I can remember a few days of getting out early because of snow, several inches not a dusting. North Louisiana didn't have any thing at the time for ice or snow, not even trucks to sand the bridges. Many years later they did finally get enough money to put up the "Danger Ice on Bridge" sign, the kind that folded in half and locked during summer so the message was blocked. Some times they just left it down all year.
Today, if you go to an elementary/middle school, it seems that every kid has his personal chauffeur (mom) to bring them to school. High schools have to have huge parking lots to accommodate the personal vehicles of the students. I think when I was in High school, only about 3 kids had cars of their own (or drove parents car to school)
Man what a change in one or two generations. I bought my kids ONE car to share (used not new) when the oldest got old enough drive so he could do some of the chauffeuring because both wife and I worked. Now I don't think my grandkids know what a school bus is.
But I digress from the weather in North Carolina.

NC is famous for "Trapping" kids in school when the freaky weather we have strikes. School administrators that I have talked to advise they would rather be cussed for delaying or closing school than being cussed because they open school and the streets and highways glaze over and the children cannot be taken home.

I lived outside of Watertown and Syracuse on two different occasions. As mentioned, no way am I ever moving back.

People drive like crap no matter what state you live in.

That said, I have found that in NC people tend to STOP at a yield sign instead of slowing down or speeding up to merge into traffic.

I laugh at us Georgia-n's sometimes, when we have a little bit of snow everything is shut down to a halt, I remember as a youngster in the 60's my folks moving to Ohio ( for a very short stay) we got the furniture unloaded into the house on the first day, the next day we awoke to 2 ft of snow, I remember my mom saying don't bother to unpack we an't-a-staying here, although we did stay for about 2 months, when the snow melted away enough to travel, we headed back south to stay,
BTW... I have many Kin folk in Murphy NC, and that's enough reason for me not to go there
