Allis Chalmers 2 Bottom "Trip Plow"

Anyone have any information on this plow model-good bad or otherwise:

$599 is a very good price for a 2-14 wheel plow. I paid $1,200 for a perfectly refurbished, 3-Pt. hitch mount, Ford Series 101 2-12 plow a year ago, including some freight.

Seller does not say if it is for Cat 1 or Cat 2 three point hitch?..

Do you have enough horsepower, weight and traction to pull it?

I'm probably not actually going to buy it, but was just curious about it-it is a nice looking plow though. Plows haven't really been used much in agriculture in my area in my adult life and two bottom plows are far too small to have been used much on the large farms I grew up around. So, my experience with them is limited. At risk of showing my ignorance, I had never seen a two bottom wheel plow before (only larger plows) so I was curious about this one and what the folks here thought about them.

One of the questions I have, for example, is how the plow shares are lowered on this particular wheel plow. Obviously on something of this age it is not likely to be a hydraulic mechanism-I sure as heck don't see any in the photographs. Also curious about how they plow compared to a three point type. Just general information. To answer your question though, I'm not sure if my tractor does have the horses (or more importantly the weight) to pull this plow in heavy soils. Maybe it would on a good day-I'm not sure.

Looks a lot like my International Harvester Little Genius 2-14 plow that I bought and restored a few years ago. Paid $350 for it, but the shipping cost from central Illinois to Northern CA was about $500. But a really wanted that old plow. It works fine.

A few years before that I found a nice Allis Chalmers 80-T 7-ft sicklebar mower (pull type). Bought it from a neighbor for $150. Restored it also. It's well made. Need to rebuild the wobble box (bearing problem).

On towed plows without hydraulics, a rope/cord is used to "trip" (raise/lower) the plow from the tractor. The plow has to be moving for the tripping mechanism to work.

I figured that was how this worked as I've seen that on other small implements. The words "trip plow" also gave me a hint. Like I said though, I had not seen a two bottom wheel plow before so wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the answer.

Being an expert on pallets and grievances can you actually explain a trip plow mechanism ? Yes the plow has to be be moving to pick up , but it will trip sitting still . I have 2 44 JD plows and love plowing . Get serious and explain the actual cam and crank mechanism on the lift .

Sadly, my knowledge is miniscule when it comes to "trip" plows and other mechanical issues. My Dad had a John Deere "trip" chisel plow that we towed behind an AC WD 45. That's been a long time ago, and I just remember using a cord to "trip" the plow and a set of levers that could be used to set the plow depth. You have jogged my memory, I think the chisel plow could also be lowered when stationary.

Pull rope to trip and go down and pull the rope to trip and come up. The term trip has nothing to do with the plow beam tripping when hitting a rock or root, as in a Ford 101 or Massey 43 or JD 145 plow. Ken Sweet

Back in the day I used an old Oliver 2 bottom trip plow behind an M Farmall...
Plow worked really well and turned over the ground really nice...
Like Ken stated you pull the rope to raise and lower the plows...
