Since when did quanity go over the importance of quality.......?????

Sorry you are in a though spot.

I worked flat rate all my life, from the business end of it, quantity has always been more important than quality.

It simply costs too much to be in business today, to be there, just to give a guy a job. He has got to make you money.

If you want to stay out of the line of fire in your next job, you have to figure out how to be at least as productive as the average guy. And, if you want to be successful, you have to got to the top of the production scale.

That doesn't mean you have to be a hack. Lots of guys are productive, and produce quality work.

I often turned twice as many hours as the average guy in my business did, and my jobs never came back. It can be done.

The best thing you can do now, is focus your energy on being even better.

You don't always have to work harder, sometimes you have to learn to work smarter. That could mean quitting smoking, taking few breaks, spending less time BS'ing on the tool truck, and working through lunch occasionally, for starters. Then, continuing education to improve your skills, and your business sense.

If you did not work flat rate at you last job. Find a job that will pay you flat rate. Nothing motivates you more than seeing the day going by, and not having earned any pay. Then, you will know more about how the boss feels. Except, he can actually loose money on you for the day, because he is still paying for the building, the utilities, the insurance, and your benefits, to name a few.

Learn to work flat rate, be productive, and they will practically beg you to work for them.

Good luck in your job search. If you are a good diesel mechanic, you won't have a problem finding a job. As to buying a house. NO ! you don't have the $$ to buy a house. You need stable employment 1 st. Then 20% down with a 15 yr fixed mortgage , house payment should be no more than 1/3 of your take home pay and 6 months living expenses. If you can't do the above , you don't need to buy a house

I watched episodes of American loggers on Netflix recently. The loggers the show was based on are located in Maine and seem to need a good mechanic if you want to move to Maine. Pelletiers logging. Good luck.

Forget that place, even though that wasn't a good fit for you it was past time to move on. Now you are moved on so keep rolling. Lots of car/truck places figure they can just go through the motions, but in the end their constant corner cutting gets in the way. You can do better. Keep your head up and you'll get the house when the timing is right.
If you think about it, they did you a favor. If they hadn't fired you you might have found a house and ended up w/out the job, and possibly have lost the house too.
Now you can start fresh and give your best effort, but don't give your all, sometimes people will take advantage of it or find ways to make you pay for doing more than expected. It's a fine line.

Sorry you had that experience. You are not the only one, and it may not be your last time either. What's important at this point is looking forward and learning from the past.

What I would urge you to take away from this is, that when you realized for the past year that something just wasn't clicking for you there, that was the time to look elsewhere on your own terms. It's really paddling upstream to try to keep a job that isn't a good fit for you--no matter what the reason or whose fault it may be.

Also, be honest with yourself. Something went wrong with that job and you were part of that. Sometimes it is out of your control, but more often it is not. Saying you were set up and such may be true, but there was a reason that it happened.

I do not want to be harsh or beat on you, no one likes to be told to leave a job. But it happens and you need to learn from the experience and put that to work in your next job. If you can learn from experience, then you will find a job that fits you well, and you will be happier than if you still had the old job.

Stay positive. Sometimes life gives us a whacking, but as the old saying goes: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

Some very good points that needed to be raised as we only know one side. My first week as a supervisor, I sat in on an employee termination. I worked with the person being terminated for several years and knew there were problems; not specifics only what the employee reported. Man, I hated to see it and had mixed feelings. After reviewing the file to which I was not previously authorized, I had a much better understanding.

I do feel for anyone who loses their job; been there and most will at some point for whatever reason, best to do some soul searching and move on.

This is good advice here. You are actually fortunate that this happened before you locked yourself into a mortgage and a house to sell. Now you are free to explore employment anywhere. Many of us have went through a few different employers before we figured out all the aspects of our profession and found a place to stick. I've never missed or regretted any that I've left.

Shake the dust off and look forward with enthusiasm to a fresh start and a new opportunity to build on your reputation. Just think about where you want to live and start looking.

You'd be working tomorrow if wiling to come up to ND. Many do it on a temporary basis, many like it and relocate permanently.

Like it or not, dealers and service companies like the guys who make the company money (whether the job is done right or not). A sad fact of life.

Good luck finding another job! As a vehicle mechanic, it shouldn't be too difficult.

I also agree with TripleR's comments...we are getting one side of the story...
