JD 3038E vs Kubota L3200

The aluminum gear housing just wouldn't work for me.

I'm not sure I have a problem with that by itself as long as it's engineered right, but everything else about the 30XX series definitely feels like a budget tractor. One of my relatives has one -- it has done fine for him over the years, but it feels about like you'd expect for the price. Deere keeps them in the lineup to hit a price point, and they still sell quite a few.

What is the value in an aluminum housing? I thought aluminum was primarily used over iron or steel for weight reduction, which has a negative correlation to tractor performance. It's noticeably more expensive for aluminum than iron or steel. Is it just that much easier to machine it ends up being cheaper than iron?
Probably just saves weight in shipping. I can't think of any other reason to use aluminum castings on tractors. I've also seen it on smaller BX or B Kubotas, but not sure what models.

Budget tractor or not, my 3032E seems very well made and I cant think of anything else I need it to do. Easy to operate, runs like a top, plenty of power. Not sure I would change a thing about it. Plus I look good on it!

love my JD 3032E
looked at all colors before I bought
I'm a big guy and just seem to fit the JD best
my right ankle is fused together and the bota's single foot pedal would kill me
with over 300 hrs. I know I made a good purchase

Just purchased the Kubota L3200. Drove the Deere, the Yanmar, the LS, and the Mahindra. I have been searching since October last year. Was going to go used but it is apparent these hold value so I said screw it and went new. I have a buddy that sells JD and gave me a huge discount to stop me when I was backing my truck to the Kubota. This is not a joke. I also had another good friend in the same circle calling me telling me to call the JD sales guy back and go Green. I went orange with no regrets. I spent a whole day dealer hoping and driving. Kubota was last...I didn't drive it for more than 5 minutes and it was game-set-match. These comparisons and threads comparing these two tractors kind of makes me laugh. You have JD guys who are hard core JD. Buy Green or you suck type guys. Want a real tractor buy Green. Thing is you have to get to what...45hp or more before you even get a real true Green tractor? This JD series is like my dads JD Garden tractor with a few more bells and whistles.

It's simple...more fuel, more range selection (HST), faster fwd and rev, easier to maintenance, more weight, more power, more lift, more implements, no special Kubota only attachments, better built, all metal, better paint, better lines, did I mention all metal, more standard features, easier to drive, larger, true Kubota engine, did I mention all metal? Do you see a trend here? Go color blind for a day as I did. I have no ties to any one brand I do not care it was my first tractor purchase. Move the color blinder goggles off, don't talk to any friends, drive everyone your butt can stand in a day or two...then get what you want. But even Mahindra who boast best in the world with signs showing it holding a Green and Orange from a bucket....drove and felt like a Tractor...not a work of art that works.

The Kubota was the clear choice...I paid $1k more for something that felt less like an old field Massy and more like a machine built to last...which I feel it is. Again...I had no allegiance to any color. I have been using an old Massey 45hp 2wd beast that is older than I am and tough as nails. 5+ hours in that seat and you were ready to tap out. Just my 2 cent. I hope this helps from a newbie.

That is why there is not one tractor manufacturer and only one dealer. I felt the same way about the green tractor. I like the plastic over metal on my tractor because my floor board is cover in mud right now and not rusting at all. When rocks fall out of the bucket the hood does not dent. I own a truck that looks like Mike Tyson and I do not want my tractor to look like that. My low profile transmission housing has made in the USA stamped in its casting. And it only burns about a gallon of fuel an hour under a heavy load so the smaller fuel tank works great for me. I own a 3038e.
I like reading everyone's reasons for the tractor they buy. So welcome to the forum and remember without pictures it didn't happen.
