My name is Danie and I'm a Game Farmer from South Africa. I enjoy the forum and learn a lot. Has anyone have ever attempted to build a Dam scoop or have any plans to build one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh my Tracktor is a Ford 4110. A 1m3 bucket I think would be the right size

Type it into google and click images. They are like a pull type scraper for moving material.

Have almost completed converting one from what was originally a "Gaston" 4 wheel lever operated horse drawn scoop to 2 wheeled hydraulic scoop.
Used front stub axles hubs etc from a wrecked 744D Massey tractor, fitted re treaded 750x16 tyres.
Constructed an A frame to mount an 18x3 hydraulic ram.
Built an adjustable tractor hitch and converted the foot operated dump control to rope operation.
A home built scoop based on this design was featured in ads for Lincoln Welders in the late 1950s, It was used to construct tanks/dams up to 6000 cu yrds. A McCormick W30 tractor was used to
haul it.
Have the basic plans for this scoop and did intend to build it from scratch but was fortunate enough to find an old Gaston Scoop that still had a good
bowl (1 cuyrd approx.) and frame.

Pull Scraper is another name for them, I have lots of photos of them all different sizes. Intended to build one but noticed one out in a field one day and contacted the farmer to see if he wanted to sell it. It was a little bigger than I would have built (2.5 yards) but the best $300 I spent that day.

Lots of pictures here
pull scraper - Yahoo Image Search Results

I ran a scraper for a while to enlarge a dirt tank, 5 yards if I could get a full load. I learned that the bigger tow vehicle you can have, the better. Traction is the key, thus a tracked vehicle is good. Transport of the spoil is a big time consumer...need to drop it some place close by.

Unless you are set up to build such a piece of equipment, I would think that trying to find one would make sense...but then you are in South Africa...may not be an option.

I see now. I know it as a dirt pan, scraper, or pull scraper.
