Diesel Pickups in the snow and those front hooks

Sorry to continue off topic again, but when people say 4wd with open diffs is only 1 or 2wd it's totally wrong.... all 4 tires drive IF they have traction.
Any differential will apply the same amount of torque to both wheels..... When a wheel spins on an open, the other wheel is getting the same amount of torque, zero. The slipping wheel gets zero torque, so does the other and it does not move.

A locker or L/S will also apply the same amount of torque to both tires, but is not limited to the one with the lowest traction. A locker or L/S will eliminate the lowest common denominator effect that an open has.

Back to the L/S option. I installed a lunchbox locker for a friend once, and the window and door jamb sticker were wrong. He had an 8.8 with L/S in his brand new Ranger, when both tags said open. Seems maybe he got an upgrade and did not even know it...was not happy about it though as we ordered a No-Slip for an open that would not work in the L/S carrier. Morale of the story: don't trust the tag or even door jamb!

In fairness, I have only been stuck three times with this truck in the time I have owned it. Once when I slid off an icy road and two times in the last week. One of those times, I did something stupid in that I tried to turn around in someones narrow driveway going off into no mans land.

The other time I was just trying to get home up my drifted driveway and it should have gone through IMO. But I do have the hop occur alot. Just have to back up and take another run usually.

Too bad no one publishes the weight distribution of these trucks from front to rear. That would interest me.

Did I read right about a power wagon having an electronically activated sway bar? Say what?

What's the point of saving pennies in fuel, when you do thousands of dollars of damage when one of these low slung vehicles hits a parking curb?

Fuel economy is a federal mandate (and good for advertising). As for "thousands of dollars of damage", well that's money out of YOUR pocket into the profits of the manufacturer. They don't see that as a problem :(

How well does that work when the Salt eats it to pieces?

Yes sir you can press a button in the cab and it disconnects the front sway bar. Then you can what they say "full stuff" the front tire. The articulation on these trucks are unreal. Press the button again when do e and the sway bar reconnects. My 2013 power wagon is my favorite truck I have ever owned. It is capable of going places I will never take it. I bought it to make sure I'm not in the situations you've been in. I don't like being stuck. Honestly though the only time I've had the front diff locked in has been to play haven't needed it to get unstuck yet. Just the other day I was going through some snow that was almost bumper high and it went fine just in 4wd didn't need the lockers. The rear diff doesn't need limited slip additive on a power wagon either.

Never heard of salt bothering them and plenty of Canadian power wagon owners. The power wagon was rereleased in 2005 btw.

Yup, newer Jeeps also have it.

Pretty sure only the rubicon jeeps have the disconnecting sway bar from the factory along with front and rear electronic lockers. I could be wrong.

I think you may be right, and you can only use below certain speeds. I have not paid much attention to the JKs, guess I am becoming like the older Jeep owners towards TJ owners like me!

Can anyone confirm that the Power Wagon came with a diesel and manual trans for some years? That would be about the perfect newer truck for me....:licking:

All I know about the power wagon is that TV show years ago with the REALLY HOT BLONDE! When ever they needed to get out of some mess, they called on the Power Wagon! lol

I just spoke with a 4x4 shop where I bought my folding hard cover. He knows what I am talking about and says there is no fix for the vibration! He urges to STOP as soon as possible as this is very hard on the drivetrain. He said it is lessened while in 4WD low, and I think I have had this experience. I don't like to use 4wd low, because I almost lost the whole truck when new, while in 4WD low!

I had delivered a Generator to a customer with an EXTREMELY steep paved driveway. I was in 4WD LOW. I unloaded, shut the thing off and figured it would remain in place better in low, and did not use the E-brake. I heard this ratcheting sound and to my horror saw the thing coming backwards! My friend said, he has never seen anyone move that quickly, as I managed to get back in and stop it.

It would have rolled over the generator, then gone over a cliff, hitting a large propane tank and then into the side or roof of the cottage!

Apparently, this is not uncommon I hear. The moving in 4WD Low, PARK position!

I was using the E-Brake faithfully for a while. Had a brake job done not too long ago and was told all that E-Brake stuff has gone bad! JUNK! Just pure JUNK! Give me four dam drum brakes anytime!
