If I bolt 2" PVC to edge of snowblower, will it eat it?

I need to clear a path about 50' across my front lawn to let the dogs "do their business" when it snows deep. Invariably, I always scalp a few spots when I hit a dip even though I'm trying to keep it an inch or two above the lawn.

I cut a piece of 2" PVC pipe and slit it lengthwise on my table saw, slipped it on the edge and put a bolt through on each end to hold it on.

THEN..I chickened out and took it off fearing that the snowblower might eat it and get sick....

It's a 46" JD single stage snowthrower. Do you think. it would do major damage if it broke, or would it just crunch it up and spit it out?

can't help you -ANY- with a snowblower application. can only relate grading leveling sand with an angle blade and bolting on a section of horse stall matting to make a 'forgiving edge' onto a box and angle blade... ie. blade it over a yard to fill in low spots without eating up the sod so much.

hope someone else with a snopwblower or SNOW can help you.

Doesn't the snow blower have skis on the edges that can be adjusted for depth?

For that PVC to come off and go into the blower, the bolts or PVC would have to break. Do you think that's likely?

I gobbled up an old frying pan that I had used to put food out for the animals. It was a two stage blower but I can't figure how it made it's way through, and just a little mangled at that.

2" PVC is quite sturdy. Can you not secure it or don't you want to? Maybejust bunjie cords on the sides or something. You do have shear bolts, right? They would probably just bust!

I bolted it at each end to the scraper blade and I do have shear bolts. I'm going to try it next snowstorm. I was afraid to take a chance on being without it with 11" of snow last week.

I've been wanting to try the same after it worked so good for the plow on my ATV.

I would think your shear pins would protect you in the event of any mishaps.

I don't have a gravel driveway, but I think it would work equally well except that the PVC would wear out faster, but PVC is cheap. If it works well you could upgrade to iron pipe.
