I think the impeller would just blow right through that PVC, I have hit some pretty big branches with mine and it just blew right through them!
If I bolt 2" PVC to edge of snowblower, will it eat it?

I'm not seeing how the skids are digging as mine dont with the blade set at 1.5" off the ground (use a 2x4).. But, could you not make 'skis' by bolting the PVC along side/over the skid shoes? Front to back on each side, not across.
edit: I did replace the metal skids with these much larger poly ones:

Pvc pipe gets extremely brittle when it gets cold. It will probably not hold up.

If the PVC works OK on the first trial, I will change to ABS or iron pipe. I had the PVC in stock and have already slit it and bolted it to the cutting edge. We're expecting some snow tonight.

My stock skids are much smaller than those. The ski idea may work, but would be more work to attach and remove, and I want to be able to quickly take it off for my blacktop driveway. I think this is going to work. If the weatherman is correct, I should have the answer tomorrow....along with another genius idea, to be announced tomorrow...if it works.

If the auger turns freely without hitting it, then why not try it? Most it cost you is a couple sheer bolts. If it doesn't hold up, try PVC Schedule 80, it's a lot more heavy duty than the standard Schedule 40.

Pvc and abs do not do well with cold. If you hit a cold piece of pvc on something it will crack if you hit it hard it will shatter like a bomb was in it. Poly may do better, steel should work fine, now if you could make a steel roller?

Ya, my stock skids were much smaller too, and worn.. So I changed to these. They actually fit all the way front to back and dont dig into my sandy driveway. In fact, I have to do a little 'up' pressure on the handles to keep the nose planted
if you get a chance, try them out. At $30, they are worth it IMHO.
