Iam postive. Have ran and still run tractors with oil bath air cleaner. Also have one on my old 3 ton grain truck. If anything your more likely to hurt the engine with too little oil than too much.

Agree with that, it would just burn it.

Man I'm glad that I asked this question because I done put it back together and it was still on my mind. I'lll just take the oil cup back off in the morning and fill up the inner cup.

I noticed some of the wire mesh up inside the canister had some oil on it when I took it out and cleaned it.

It might suck in a tad when first started. Mine did.

If I fill the inner cup with oil, up to the 6 tiny holes, the oil level will be even with the max level marking on the outer cup.

Ya too little oil could be very bad. If you dont have enough oil to trap and or keep the dirt.

Well now that I know the correct way for the oil to be, how exactly does this oil filtration system work?

This might not be a good way to explain it. A picture would be helpfull. But basically this air rushes in from the top and a spinning action is added to the incoming air. Spinning action all the really heavy stuff gets thrown to the outside. Than at the bottom where the oil is the whole lot of air changes direction. This sudden change of direction drops anything heavier than air downwards. The oil is there to trap and hold all the dirt that has fallen out of the air. Since the oil is heavy and does not evaporate very easily it will stay in place keeping all the dirt. Than the only thing is to change the oil and dump the dirt out before the oil gets full of dirt. Like I said you need enough oil to keep the dirt trapped. Too little oil not a good thing. Hope this helps
