Neighbor lets dogs out to do their business in my yard?

Make note to the local animal control or dogcatcher. If that dog charges you or family again you have a paper trail plus the dogcatcher might explain the situation to the dog owner. This kind of thing can turn deadly with an aggressive dog. Just my opinion.

Bin there, don't hesitate to put the dog down. My neighbor suffered for a couple of weeks in the hospital and several months therapy from a pit bull attack.

Wish poop was all I had to worry about! Our neighbor that lives about 500 yards away has a aggresive pit mix, went outside today and the dog charged me, I stepped toward it and it didn't back down, I turned to look for something to put in my hand out of the bed of the truck and it charged me again! I made it to the house and got my shotgun, it charged and I shot in the air, it ran away. My second shot wasn't going in the air. I have a 4 year old grandson om concerned about,I went to there house he was too busy defending the dog to hear what I was saying, my parting statement was don't let that dog come to my house again, don't want trouble but I won't put up with a agressive dog. Any suggestions beside the obvious .

I would make a formal complaint. This could end very badly. And no warning shots from now on.

Problem is! We live in a rural area! Our sheriff has 2 deputy's , I know both of there dads, we have no dog catcher, they will do nothing about it because of low budget!ive never shot a dog beside coyotes but this may be my 1 st. I won't wait till something happens to my wife my 16 yr old son our when my 4 yr old grandson visits! Guess I better check my backhoe to see if it'll start.

All the more reason for a formal complaint to the city or county in writing. Via registered letter. I'd at least have everyone have bear spray

You seem to be more knowledgable about this , I don't really want to shoot a dog, a letter to county, as in what office would that be addresses to. County sheriff? Prosecuting attorney? Or whom.

Definitely get an official complaint on record. One of the factors that came up when it came time for fines etc was that there was no previous complaint against the dogs. If there had been criminal prosecution could have been an option. The owners of the dogs got off with only a fine, the neighbor however is still suffering.

I am not sure of your city/county structure, but since you could have feared for your life (I would have), I would consider it a police matter. So I would start with the County Sheriff. It would not hurt to copy other agencies, maybe the county administrator. Like Timster says, this guy needs to be put on notice or he could just get slapped with a fine if something happens to your family or another neighbor's.

You have quite a history in your town, I was not aware of that until I looked it up on Wikipedia. Impressive.

Thanks! and I was definitely fearful, kinda makes you wonder if the dog is gonna stop the charge! I don't think the dog could kill me before I got it bit I would be chewed up pretty bad , my wife son and grand son And my 4 month old lab pup and my 11 year old lab is my biggest concern though , and yes the town is quite historical, overlooks the Mississippi ,
